The Peacock series 'Angelyne' is based on the eponymous billboard queen who became a Los Angeles icon in the '80s. The artist came to prominence in 1984 after the appearance of a series of catchy billboards in and around Los Angeles, California that simply read "Angelyne" and pictured her posing suggestively.

The show revolves around her life and her choices, disappointments, and betrayals. It dives deep into the icon’s life and gives viewers an idea of how she presented herself to everyone and made a luxurious life for herself.

'Angelyne': 5 things you need to know about Peacock show based on the '80s icon

The series starts with the actress whispering to herself, "I am not a woman, I am an icon." Throughout her life, she's got into gigs and involved herself with people to make use of any opportunity that knocked on her door claiming it would give her the fame and name she wanted. The story begins with her befriending a boy from the Blue Band. While he madly falls in love with her, she's just here for business. She knows what she wants and uses him to get to the top.

She starts to get famous by putting up billboards of her in every place possible in Los Angeles. This gets her noticed, just as she wanted. As the story progresses, her need for control over her self-perception only grows stronger. We see several men get sucked into her, only to be spit out eventually.

Some may find a fan moment or two in the proceedings while others may not exactly take to how she uses people who genuinely care about her. The ending, though, does give some insight into where Angelyne came from, and perhaps even explains why she did what she did, and the way she did it. It throws light on her abysmal childhood and shows us what her first love was like. The actress has a troubled relationship with her controlling father, and the situation only gets worse after her mother passes away, when she is barely 14.

Nothing comes easy for her as she can't talk to her parents about her feelings. The only company she has is her little sister. One night, her boyfriend takes her back to her house to apologize for not being there enough when she needed him. Though she asks him to get out from there, he insists and keeps talking. That night becomes quite the turning point for her and she realizes she could be so much more than she is.

The story then jumps back to the original plot where the adult Angelyne is bombarded with a dozen phone calls on the latest news report about her. All of a sudden, she is a people's favorite. Her billboards keep going up, and she is now a sensation.
