LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'American Idol' Season 22 contestant Madaí ChaKell performed Katy Perry's superhit song 'I Kissed a Girl' and instantly raised many eyebrows.

The aspiring singer, who has been a Broadway performer, flaunted her voice-changing skills. However, many social media users seemed frustrated with Madaí's attempt.

She shared with the judges, Katy, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie, that she was born in Massachusetts, but grew up in New York.

Katy seemingly complimented Madaí, stating, "She had an experience. You sound like you could be like Smurfette." The contestant noted while flaunting different accents, "I do that too, I make voices. I can like switch it up and talk like this. I've been learning the accent around here and I love it."

Still, her different voices and accents didn't go down well with the netizens.

A fan of the show commented on YouTube, "Madai is somewhere in there amongst all the gimmicky stuff. I'm with Luke on this one." Another person added, "If she was half as good as she thinks she is...." Another viewer said, "Too many voice changes.'

Another internet user penned, "I think she wanted to present ALL of her skills in one audition and it backfired, also treating it like a live concert just threw it completely off with the movement. Very distracting and hard to focus on the actual singing. She’s got something without the theatrical performance."

One critic wrote, "Too animated, too over the top, thinks way too much of herself. Did I like her? Nope." Another viewer suggested, "Absolutely not a fan. Just gimmicky. The pronunciation was gross. It should have been a hard no for all of them. Ridiculous. Simon would have sent her packing as was needed."

Did Madaí ChaKell get a golden ticket on 'American Idol' Season 22?

'American Idol' Season 22 contestant Madaí ChaKell bagged the golden ticket and advanced to Hollywood with two yes and a no.

Luke Bryan suggested that she needed more practice and gave her a no. But Katy Perry and Lionel Richie saw something special in her.

Katy said, "It is so fun when you can strip it all down, take all that frosting off and there's still like a great cake." She elaborated, "I appreciated 'I Kissed a Girl'. That was like wild and colorful."

Lionel praised, "All I want to know is at that end of this run, that you are in control of all the characters. When you went from Katy to that person I just saw right here, show business."

Luke Bryan criticizes Madaí ChaKell's performance in 'American Idol' Season 22

Luke was not highly amazed by Madaí Chakell's performance. He criticized her singing and claimed, "I think you're still a year or two away of really perfecting who you are as the individual artist. That's my thoughts."

Before Luke's comments, Katy gave Madaí a second chance to prove her talent.

The 'Roar' singer asked Madaí to sing 'Happy Birthday' and she surprisingly rocked the song. Katy suggested that she had a talent and she could be a great performer if "you could mix it with what you just did."

The contestant assured the judges that she could rock every song, adding: "I sure can I'm an R&B girl too. I have a theatrical classical background. I can switch it up and give you 'Little Mermaid'. I can give you whatever."
