'Can barely hear anyone': 'American Idol' fans fume as contestants' voices 'drowned out' by loud band
BRENTWOOD, CALIFORNIA: The singers often complain that their singing is drowned out by the noise of the deafening band. In the last episode of American Idol,' fans were outraged that they couldn't hear the contestants' singing because of the loud band.
When rap icon Snoop Dogg continued yelling "I can't hear you" to fans at his Trusts Arena event in March, it was putting salt in the wound for many of them, who felt the audio was so terrible they couldn't hear him. Several disappointed spectators took to social media to vent about a concert that went flat within the first half hour. "If Snoop was trying to hype us up, it wasn’t that we were ‘overly docile,’ we simply couldn’t hear him," one fan said. A similar incident appears to have occurred in the May 7 episode of 'American Idol'.

Haven Madison sings for her own Idol
Haven Madison regards Alanis Morissette as the ultimate songwriting idol, so when the episode theme honored the legend, she was ecstatic. She selected 'You Learn' since the 17-year-old grew as a result of this encounter. This song was a logical choice for Haven, whose voice was closer to Alanis' than anybody else in this Top 8. She lacked Alanis' edge, but she delivered a solid performance. Alanis was looking forward to seeing what happened next in Haven's career. Ed Sheeran admired the teen's voice.
After Alanis showed the candidates how it's done with her own performance of 'Thank U,' Zachariah Smith and Haven returned with a duet of 'Thinking Out Loud.' The two sounded great together, and the song was excellent for them to blend their voices. Ed said they performed a better job than he did and described them as "so talented." Alanis stated that the song sounds like it was intended to be a duet. Luke Bryan experienced "smile cramps" while watching the two. However, viewers at home didn't exactly have the same experience as the judges.
'Turn the band down my god'
One fan on Twitter complained, " Haven, I think will be voted out. Her voice is very light and got drowned out by the band and then with the duet partner." Another complained, "I'd love to hear the artists. Why does the band have to drown the singer out EVERY episode? I watch for the artists, not the band." One disappointed fan tweeted, "No, no, no & the band is drowning out Haven or her voice is not strong enough." "The band sounds louder than the artists," wrote another.
Cause it was so late in the voting & that Oliver needed the save last week. I think Oliver's in trouble with Zach. Haven, I think will be voted out. Her voice is very light and got drowned out by the band and then with the duet partner #AmericanIdol

On Reddit, a fan begged, "Turn the band down my god." Another person asked, "Why is the band so f*cking loud omg." One viewer observed, "The band swallows Haven up. She cannot project, except on the big notes where she belts. She doesn’t have the vocal strength or experience to be on this stage…. Buh-bye." Looks like the problem didn't just stay limited to Haven's performance, "Wow the audio mixing is horrific this episode. Can barely hear anyone over the band."
'American Idol' Season 21 airs every Sunday and Monday at 8 pm ET on ABC.
