Taking on a Chaka Khan's song is definitely a bold and risky decision, especially while battling to stay on 'American Idol'. But season 20 contestant Ava Maybee did exactly that when she decided to perform Rufus & Chaka Khan's song 'Tell Me Something Good' for her Top 24 performance.

When Ava announced that she wanted to perform a Chaka Khan song, guest mentor Bebe Rexha was curious to know why she picked out such a tough song for her performance. Ava revealed that she was told in her dreams to sing Chaka Khan's song. The young singer decided to add her own spin to the famous song and gave her final performance before the judges. While the judges praised Ava's bold decision to perform a Chaka Khan song, fans, unfortunately, didn't share the same feelings.

Several fans took to the show's YouTube page to slam Ava's song choice. A fan commented, "I love the rocker quality to her voice but wasn't thrilled about this song choice." "Wrong song choice. I don't expect her to last long in the competition if she keeps making poor song choices. Stronger singers then her that she has to compete with," wrote a fan. Another fan added, "Wasn't right for her voice." "She comes across whiney to me. I'm sorry I just couldn't finish listening," expressed a fan.

Fans were also unimpressed by her overall performance. A fan shared, "I personally think her performance has been the worst so far.. Not hating, just trying to be honest." "Unpopular opinion. She can definitely sing, but I'm not seeing her in the top ten at all. Just not my favorite singer this season," echoed a fan. "Another singer leaving her genre. Another rough song choice. She needs to leave the funk to pops and go back to more straightforward rock if she gets through," observed a fan.

Since the audience will be deciding which of the contestants will make it through to the next round and who gets sent home, we will have to wait until the next episode to see how America felt about Ava's performance.

'American Idol' Season 20 airs every Sunday and Monday at 8/7c on ABC.
