After KBS, MBC and SBS announce their hosts for year-end song festivals
As the year is inching towards its end, many big events in the Korean Entertainment industry have begun to unfold as a way to felicitate artists for their contribution to the progress and popularity of the industry as well as for facilitating the spread of Hallyu. Alongside the big award functions like Asia Artist Awards 2021, MAMA 2021, and Melon Music Awards 2021, the K-pop industry is ruled by the three big song festivals.

SBS ‘Gayo Daejeon’
The song festival from SBS has announced their set of hosts for the ‘2021 SBS Gayo Daejeon’ which will be broadcast live on December 25. SHINee member, Key, who has been grabbing a lot of attention off late for his solo album, will host the show. Accompanying him will be Boom (Lee Minho), a South Korean rapper, singer, actor, radio host, and television presenter who is currently seen on a host of Korean variety shows.
Joining the two will be the K-pop group ITZY’s Yuna after the group celebrated the success of their first studio album Crazy in Love and its lead single ‘Loco’. The theme of the ‘2021 SBS Gayo Daejeon’ is ‘Welcome’ (stylized in all caps) and is centered around the idea of getting the world of K-pop back into the ‘contact’ era after the ‘untact’ era that was caused due to the pandemic.
MBC ‘Gayo Daejejeon’
After SBS announced their MCs for their song festival, MBC also listed their set of representatives to host their year-end song festival, ‘Gayo Daejejeon’. The ‘2021 MBC Gayo Daejejeon’ will be hosted by 2PM’s Junho who is currently capturing hearts with his K-drama appearance on ‘The Red Sleeve’. Junho’s appearance at the year-end festival is highly anticipated as this will be his first time hosting a song festival after his immense popularity following his return from the military and his comeback with the K-pop group, 2PM who released their studio album, ‘Must’ in June of 2021.
Alongside 2PM’s Junho, long-time TV presenter, Jang Song-kyu, and Girls Generation’s Yoona will both host the song festival together for a second consecutive time. Yoona has been a long-time MC of the show who has been hosting the festival for MBC since 2015. In 2020, Yoona and Song-kyu were joined by Actor Kim Seon-ho who is replaced by 2PM’s Junho for 2021. The ‘2021 MBC Gayo Daejejeon’ will be aired on December 31.
