KBS Gayo Daechukje MC: ‘Visual explosion’ from SF9 Rowoon, AOA Seolhyun, Astro Eunwoo

Annual year-end K-pop music festivals have started announcing their performance lineup and MCs

With the year coming to an end, the year-end award shows and music festivals are near. Fans love the Gayo Daejeon events hosted by different channels as we get to see our favorite K-pop artists interact and perform at these annual music festivals. From SBS and MBC to KBS, there are several such televised music festivals. KBS launched theirs in 1965 as an award show but has discontinued the awards to focus only on music performances. Titled KBS Song Festival or Gayo Daechukje, this year’s lineup as well as the MCs are star-studded with KBS roping in SF9’s Rowoon, AOA’s Seolhyun, and Astro’s Eunwoo.

The last offline KBS Gayo Daechukje was held in 2019 before the pandemic hit as it had a huge live audience and an equally impressive lineup. Furthermore, it was hosted by GOT7’s Jinyoung, Red Velvet’s Irene, and comedian Shin Dong-yup. While the 2020 version was online, it was still glamorous as we had TVXQ’s Yunho, Astro’s Eunwoo, and actress Shin Ye-eun as MCs and impressive collab stages by the likes of Astro, NCT, Monsta X, Stray Kids, Itzy, IZ*ONE and more.

Rowoon, Seolhyun and Eunwoo as MCs

2021’s KBS Gayo Daechukje has high expectations with the social distancing guidelines easing and the prospect of a live audience. A lot of events and programs are finally allowing a live audience with even K-pop groups once again holding offline concerts. KBS’ year-end music festival will be held on December 17 at the KBS Hall in Seoul and will be broadcast on their channel. The final lineup is yet to be announced but fans are excited as the year-end shows have always had colossal performances. And this has already been hinted at with the introduction of this year’s MCs which include SF9’s Rowoon, AOA’s Seolhyun and Astro’s Eunwoo.

SF9 just had a comeback with ‘Rumination’ while the members who are idol actors all have ongoing popular K-dramas like Rowoon’s ‘The King’s Affection’. This is the first time that Rowoon has been roped in as an MC for a year-end music festival but he has hosted K-pop music shows like ‘Inkigayo’, ‘M Countdown’ and ‘The Show’. His labelmate, Seolhyun of AOA is also hosting KBS Gayo Daechukje. Fans are impressed as she has back-to-back MC gigs with the 42nd Blue Dragon Film Awards taking place after the music festival. She has also landed the new K-drama ‘The Murderer’s Shopping List’. Finally, the third MC is none other than Astro’s Eunwoo who will be hosting the music festival for the second time in a row. He also previously hosted the SBS Entertainment Awards and Seoul Drama Awards.

Fans are excited as all three MCs are popular idol actors and from successful K-pop groups. One fan tweeted, “What even is this visual explosion rowoon and eunwoo ?!!” An AOA fan commented, “YES!!!! ❤ It girl really is back!” Another multifan posted, “Eunwoo will be host again in kbs song festival??? with rowoon and seolhyun omg imagine the visuals.” One added, "I’m not ready to see Rowoon, Seolhyun, Cha Eunwoo together omg the amount of pretty in one event you’ll focus on the MCs instead of perfs they gonna shine."
