Looks like fans were not exaggerating when they said that 2021 would be the year of second-gen. Several second-gen K-pop groups had gone on a hiatus after the members started enlisting for mandatory military service in the late 2010s. However, with them returning, we’ve been getting several much-awaited comebacks from the likes of CNBLUE and SHINee. We first had 2PM return in June and now we have their labelmate 2AM reuniting with JYP and HYBE’s Bang PD working on the album.

2AM and 2PM were first created as part of the 11-member group One Day under JYPE. However, they have been making music and promoting as the two fixed sub-groups that we know today. 2AM is a ballad group with four members that had their last comeback in 2014. But with members Jokwon and Jinwoon finally back from their military service last year, the group has reunited. They kept teasing a comeback since 2020 and it's finally happening now.

2AM to come back after 7 years

After seven years, the group will finally be having a comeback in November. Not only that, their reunion album has been produced by veteran artists. It has been revealed that their label’s founder Park Jinyoung aka JYP and HYBE’s founder Bang PD aka Bang Shi-hyuk are producing the dual-title tracks. This is not the first time that Bang PD and JYP have collaborated together. Bang PD has produced albums for 2AM and JYPE girl group Wonder Girls. He has also written songs for JYP, Rain, g.o.d, and T-ara. It should also be noted that his label Big Hit which is also home to BTS had temporarily managed 2AM till 2014.

2AM’s last comeback was in 2014 with their third full-length album ‘Let’s Talk’. It had charted at #6 on Gaon Album Chart. The album had also had solo tracks for each of the four members. They had promoted with the lead singles ‘Days Like Today’ and ‘Over The Destiny’. While all of the members have left JYPE, the label had consistently assured fans that the group has not disbanded. And so, fans’ expectations for 2AM’s upcoming album are high as they have missed the ballad group.

‘Welcome back kings’

Everyone is excited including the members as Changmin tweeted, “WE ARE BACK #2am.” Happy fans posted, “Welcome back Kings.” Second-gen fans are making tweets like, “Can 2AM & KRY have a comeback together so we could at least have our ears blessed during comeback season ?” “2021 needs to be written in the history 2PM, 2AM, CNBLUE comebacks... legend comebacks,” and “The power one day has please give us dirty eyed girls 2021 too.” Another fan shared, “WAIT REALLYYYY 2AM WILL HAVE A CB???? ITS BEEN SO LONGGG.”
