aespa continues to live up to their title ‘monster rookies’ as they are close to finally graduating and reaching their third year in the K-pop industry. 2022 has been a good year for MYs (aespa’s fans) as they not only dropped their first English single but were also invited to perform at Coachella, got their first million sales and debuted at #3 on Billboard 200. Fans were also proud when aespa gave a speech on global sustainability at the UN and were acknowledged by Time and Forbes for their impact. And now, for their first Japan showcase, more than 920k fans tried to get in.

SM Entertainment had shared that following the success of their first mini-album ‘Girls’, aespa would be hosting a special Japanese showcase which would include a concert and fan meeting in Yokohama. It was held for two days on August 6 and 7. We also had Karina sharing that aespa would be having a full-length album while SM’s plans for 2022 included a tour for the girl group. And it seems that the Japan showcase was just a taste of what was to come as they held it at Pia Arena which has a seating capacity of 40k.

aespa had 920k fans trying to attend

With most new groups having their concerts at venues with 10k to 20k seats, MYs were impressed that the showcase venue for aespa had 40k seats. On top of that, the organizers released on August 8 that 920k people had tried to attend. aespa was said to have four performances over two nights and also have their first live stage in Japan. And according to the report, despite there only being 40k seats, 920k fans had tried to buy tickets which is a whopping 23x times more than the venue capacity.

The Japanese showcase opened with the performance of ‘aenergy’ followed by their debut song ‘Black Mamba’. It was also an extra special performance as Giselle who is part Japanese thanked fans for supporting them. The girls went on to perform for an hour-long with their hit singles like ‘Next Level’, ‘Illusion’ and ‘Savage’ with Ningning also going viral for her live vocals.

‘Their tour gonna eat’

On the report of 920k fans trying to buy tickets for the 2-day showcase, MYs made tweets like, “I can't believe aespa had that big ass venue for a fan meeting. chyle..... their tour gonna EAT & a full album coming?” Another shared, “Getting emotional right now bc aespa will always be famous. imagine going to japan for the first time, no japanese songs, never promoted there, but still you got 400,000 ppl fighting over a seat for your showcase. atp aespa could do a sold out tokyo dome tour for a week! Insane.”

One MY commented, “The arena for aespa’s sold out japanese showcase being bigger than most of these group’s tour venues.” Another fan flexed, “aespa's japan showcase crowd is insane. 920k applications but only 40k were chosen to attend. they're in a league of their own!”
