The years 2020 and 2021 have been breakthrough years for the Korean entertainment industry as the K-pop, as well as the K-drama worlds, saw an all-time high with K-pop acts like BTS and Blackpink holding fort internationally as well as fourth-gen acts like aespa and Enhypen dominating charts worldwide. K-dramas and Korean movies also seem to have garnered their fair share of attention with fans all over the world watching dramas like ‘Squid Game’ on Netflix. Now, the hit show is winning multiple awards, first at the 2021 People’s Choice Awards and now again at the 2022 Golden Globes.

With the release of ‘Squid Game’, a lot of attention was paid to the actors that starred in the eight episode show. Their characters became inspirations for even Halloween costumes in 2021. It seems like the hype around the K-drama won't slow down anytime soon as the cruel grandfather from the show, actor Oh Yeung-su (Oh Young-soo) who played the character of Oh Il-Nam also known as Player 1 became the first Korean actor to bag a win at the 2022 Golden Globes.
