LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: In 2019, Todd Phillips stunned the entire world by showing one of the grittier versions of the clown prince of Gotham in the movie ‘Joker’. The movie turned out to be a gigantic hit and received 11 nominations at the 92nd Academy Awards. So, it didn’t come as a shock when Phillips announced that he is working on a second movie in the same universe and Joaquin Phoenix will return to play the titular character. Four months after beginning work on ‘Joker: Folie a Deux’, director Todd Phillips has formally announced the wrap of the highly-awaited sequel.

The critically-acclaimed filmmaker marked the occasion by posting two new photos of Lady Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix on his official Instagram handle. The first photo shared by the director saw a new look of Gaga’s Harleen Quinzel, aka Harley Quinn. The picture seems to be an indication that she has fully embraced her transition and has become Harley Quinn, the renowned comic-book character. In the picture, Gaga can be seen wearing a fuzzy black jacket and donning a hair-style that is much different than the one we have seen in previous set photos. She is standing in the same elevator of Arthur

Fleck’s apartment where we saw him in the Joker makeup for the very first time.

Meanwhile, the director also shared a picture of Joaquin Phoenix as Arthur/Joker, who is seen in full Joker makeup while sitting inside what looks like a prison bus.

That's a WRAP...

“That's a wrap. Thanks to these two (+ the entire cast) and the BEST crew that the film industry has to offer. From top to bottom. Gonna crawl into a cave now (edit room) and put it all together,” Phillips wrote.

Fans ask 'Why is the release date so far away?'

Although fans got really excited after the photos surfaced online, they couldn’t understand why the movie will come out in theatres in 2024, almost 1.5 years after the official wrap announcement. One fan noted, “Why would they take so long to release it? I know editing and test screenings and all the post-production stuff, but it’s not like it’ll be a CGI fest.” Another social media user wrote, “If it’s done filming then why is it releasing so far away? Does post-production really take that long?” Another social media user tweeted, “18 months of post-production?” Another fan tweeted, “Damn, why do we get to wait so long? This can easily be out by this October.”

“Bruh filming just wrapped and it’s still more than a year away? Don’t think it has that much CGI to add but I dunno. Not super with familiar with the process,” another fan noted.

‘Joker: Folie a Deux’ will be another extraordinary take on the romance between Joker and Harley Quinn. Phoenix, who won the Best Actor accolade for playing Joker in the 2019 movie, will be reprising the titular character. On the other hand, the movie will introduce a new Harley Quinn this time around and Gaga will be seen portraying the character.

Other actors to feature in the movie include Zazie Beetz, Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, Jacob Lofland and Harry Lawtey.

‘Joker: Folie a Deux’ is scheduled to hit theatres on October 4, 2024.
