Plot
Set in the late 80s and early 90s Texas, we are introduced to a young Sheldon Cooper (played by Iain Armitage) who is just nine years old. We get to witness the trials and tribulations of this young genius as he struggles to understand the social and religious norms of Texas. His devout Christian mother, Mary Cooper (Zoe Perry) tries to push him to come to Church, while his sports-loving father George Cooper Sr. (Lance Barber) struggles to understand his youngest son who seems more interested in school than sports.
Finally, Sheldon's older brother, Georgie Jr. (Montana Jordan), a popular jock, is deeply embarrassed by sharing classes with his baby brother at school, while Missy (Raegan Revord) plays Sheldon's street-smart twin sister. Jim Parsons, who plays the role of Sheldon Cooper on 'The Big Bang Theory' narrates the show.
In season three, Sheldon will be turning 11, so we'll see him going off to college (as revealed by Sheldon on 'The Big Bang Theory'), so it will be interesting to see the shift in dynamics among the Coopers, and also the fresh adventures of Sheldon in the college.
Cast
Iain Armitage
The very talented Iain Armitage reprises the titular role of young Sheldon. Iain is best known for his role as young Sheldon and Ziggy on 'Big Little Lies'. Iain won the Young Artist Award for his brilliant performance as Sheldon. While fans were initially hesitant about the young actor being able to match up to the original Sheldon Cooper's performance by Jim Parsons, Iain laid their fears to rest with his amazing talent.
Zoe Perry
Zoe plays the role of Sheldon's mother, Mary Cooper. Mary is a devout, God-fearing woman, who wants her son Sheldon to accept the path of God just like her. She is a very protective mother, who goes to great lengths to ensure that her baby boy is well-taken care of. Her over-protectiveness towards Sheldon often leads to friction between her and her husband George Cooper Sr.
Lance Barber
Lance plays Sheldon's father and Mary's husband, George Cooper Sr. He is the head football coach at his children's school. He loves and cares for his family deeply. He is close to his elder son Georgie who plays football, while he finds it difficult to relate to his younger son Sheldon. Despite his difference in parenting style compared to Mary, George loves and cares for Sheldon and supports him in everything.
Montana Jordan
Georgie is Sheldon's popular older brother. Georgie is very close to his father and is often seen bullying Sheldon. While Georgie isn't the sharpest one in the family, he makes up for it with his endearing looks.
Raegan Revord
Sheldon's twin sister Missy is played by Raegan Revord. While Missy isn't as smart as Sheldon, she is extremely perceptive and very good with people, which Sheldon finds very challenging. Missy is often seen poking fun of her twin brother but is very fond of him and in an episode reveals that she doesn't feel whole without Sheldon.
Craig T Nelson
Actor Craig T Nelson of 'Parenthood' and 'Coach' fame is all set to appear in a recurring role in season 3 of 'Young Sheldon'. Nelson will be reprising the role of Little League baseball coach, Coach Dale Ballard. George Sr., who is a football coach, will be locking horns with Dale Ballard. Dale's character will be introduced in the sixth episode of the season 3.
Actress Annie Potts plays Sheldon's grandmother and Mary's mother Connie.
