Contains spoilers for 'X-Men '97'
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: The latest of 'X-Men '97' Episode 5 titled 'Remember It', which aired on Wednesday, April 10 is packed with fantastic Easter eggs and nods, continuing the thrilling saga after Charles Xavier's shocking disappearance and Magneto taking over the reins of the X-Men.
This episode, which is one of the most exhilarating and intense episodes yet, doesn't disappoint fans with its twists and turns. In the episodes leading up to this, our mutant heroes have been dealing with the aftermath of discovering that Mister Sinister replaced Jean Gray with a clone, now known as Madelyne Pryor.
Additionally, a powerless Storm encountered 'X-Factor's Forge, who presented her with a chance to reclaim her elemental powers. Now, episode 5 takes us back to the mutant haven of Genosha, loaded with an array of Easter eggs and references. Let's take a look at a few of them.
'Magneto is right' posters hinting at the future
In a scene filled with excitement, the mutants of Genosha show overwhelming support and admiration for the X-Men and their new leader, with a special spotlight on Magneto. The scene is vibrant with signs declaring 'Magneto Is Right', a nod to his persuasive speech at the recent UN council meeting.
This moment also pays homage to the classic comics, where 'Magneto Was Right' became a widespread slogan among mutants following his presumed demise, especially after Genosha's recognition by the UN, echoing the storyline in 'X-Men '97'.
Rogue's history with Magneto is somewhat similar to the comics
In 'X-Men '97' Episode 5, a much-anticipated reveal unfolds as Rogue opens up to Gambit about her romantic ties with Magneto. This twist, hinted at in earlier episodes, mirrors their comic book storyline.
Before joining the X-Men, Rogue was briefly part of the Brotherhood of Mutants, where she and Magneto started a short-lived romance. Their relationship became possible when they found out that Magneto's electromagnetic field could prevent Rogue's powers from harming him, allowing them a rare physical intimacy.
The Watcher from 'What If...?' is teased
Before the Hellfire Gala kicks off on Genosha, a subtle glimpse of Uatu the Watcher is spotted in the night sky, observing the events unfolding below. This appearance confirms that the 'X-Men '97' animated universe is part of the same vast multiverse that includes the primary MCU Earth-616 and its neighboring realities.
This intriguing connection raises the possibility of an exciting crossover between 'X-Men '97' and Marvel's 'What If...?' in the future.
Madelyne Pryor and Cable's relationship
Right before Genosha descends into complete turmoil, Cable, the time-traveling mutant, makes a dramatic entrance at the Hellfire Gala, standing before Madelyne Pryor.
Upon seeing his eyes, Pryor recognizes Cable as her son Nathan, who was recently sent to the future as an infant to cure him of a tech-organic virus inflicted by Mister Sinister.
However, their moment of recognition is brief as Cable is swiftly pulled away to another time before he can warn Genosha of the looming disaster, hinting at a possible future encounter with Apocalypse.
The 'Fall of Genosha'
By the climax of 'X-Men '97' Episode 5, Genosha lies in ruins. The once-promising haven for mutants has been destroyed, mirroring the tragic 'Fall of Genosha' arc from the comics, with many lives lost.
Looking ahead, there's hope that Genosha could be restored to its former glory as envisioned by Magneto and Xavier in the comics, or perhaps Cable might make another attempt to travel back in time and avert this catastrophe from ever occurring.
