Plot
Episode four ‘Pioneer the Frontier’ begins with Bobby Diggs catching up with Dennis “D-Love” Coles (Siddiq Saunderson) and Sha Raider (Shameik Moore) in order to form a new group. However, the first step proves to be a herculean task for Diggs as both have a rough background. Moore had tried to shoot Coles and his family members during an earlier gunfire incident. The two come at each other asking why they should work together to which Diggs channels his convincing powers but all goes in vain. While Sha storms off from the meeting they held on a boat, Diggs catches up with new folks in order to make them work together under one roof.
While explaining his motive to the clan, Diggs says, “So, What I am trying to do is get all our parts together and work in harmony so that our music can be complete and those instruments include Power and Sha.” Power (Marcus Callender) on the other hand, goes to Sha and tries to convince him to join the group while explaining what Diggs was trying to do.
Script
The script of Episode four revolves around Diggs trying to get everyone together. He is shown very calm and composed throughout the entire process while other members keep losing their patience repeatedly. Divine (Julian Elijah Martinez) is another key player who helps Diggs in convincing other members to form the group. Coles, on the other hand, is unable to let go of his ego against Sha. While on the boat, Divine catches up with Power telling him during a heartfelt conversation between the two that he could not be any more clear of what he wants to do in life.
Diggs later compares all of them coming together to Noah’s Ark adding that the only flood here was the drugs gang. However, Coles is still raging against Sha as they both show their guns hidden under their jackets. Diggs, who maintained his composure all along on the boat, finally loses his patience as he asks everyone to shut up which is followed by a long speech on music, unity, life, and passion. An emotional Diggs concludes that he tried to do it alone but he failed — the reason why he needed all of them to come together. As the inspiring background score gives us goosebumps, Diggs claims “Wu-Tang Clan ain’t nothing to f**k with.” Coles later adds he is going to call Diggs by the name of RZA to which the latter replies that he needs to find a stage name too. The episode wraps up with Diggs claiming, “This ain’t Staten Island — this is SHAOLIN."
Acting
Episode four was certainly one the most emotional episodes from Season 2 as we saw the members from the clan expressing their vulnerabilities. Diggs like always got the maximum screen space out of the lot. What was interesting was, the makers also took Siddiq Saunderson and Shameik Moore’s characters into the spotlight. The conversations between the characters were meaningful which now paves the road for the upcoming episodes.
