‘Reacher’ spinoff ‘Neagley’ finally sets release date as Maria Sten takes on a deadly cult
Maria Sten's Frances Neagley gets her own case in the first full trailer for 'Neagley,' the upcoming 'Reacher' spinoff from Amazon Prime Video. The eight-episode series will follow the former military operative as she takes on a case that turns personal. Neagley now works as a private investigator in Chicago. Her past remains tied to Jack Reacher, who was her military protégé relationship/mentor in the Army's 110th Special Investigations Unit.
Her latest case begins after she learns that a beloved friend from her past has died in what appears to be a suspicious accident. Neagley refuses to accept the circumstances and starts looking for answers. The trailer reveals that her investigation leads somewhere far darker than a simple case of foul play. Her friend had been taken in by a seemingly altruistic group, only to discover that the organization was a dangerous cult.
That discovery puts her against a much larger threat. She draws on the skills she learned during her military career and in the 110th Special Investigations Unit. The trailer keeps much of the mystery around the group and its motives under wraps. It does make one thing clear. Neagley's investigation will force her to confront an enemy that reaches beyond the death of her friend.
Sten returns to the role after playing Neagley in 'Reacher.' The new series gives the character a central story of her own rather than keeping her in Reacher's orbit. Alan Ritchson will appear as Jack Reacher in a guest role. The main cast also includes Greyston Holt as Detective Hudson Riley, Adeline Rudolph as Renee Birdwhistle, Jasper Jones as Keno, Matthew Del Negro as Pierce Woodrow, and Damon Herriman as Lawrence Cole.
'Neagley' is based on characters created by Lee Child, whose Jack Reacher novels inspired the franchise. Nick Santora and Nicholas Wootton created the series and serve as its co-showrunners and executive producers. Child is also an executive producer alongside Don Granger, Sam Hill, Adam Higgs, and Lisa Kussner. Hill directed the first two episodes.
Amazon Prime Video will release all eight episodes of 'Neagley' on September 16. The series now appears set to give fans a different side of the 'Reacher' universe, with Neagley facing a mystery that begins with a death and leads her toward a hidden cult.
