Will ‘R.J. Decker’ return for Season 2? Scott Speedman teases trouble ahead after unexpected finale death
Just when it seemed like viewers finally had some answers, ‘R.J. Decker’ left things hanging by a thread once again. The first season wrapped up on Tuesday, April 28, and instead of tying up loose ends, it threw in one last twist that has fans already asking the obvious question: Will there be a Season 2? At the moment, the future of the show is in limbo. ABC has not confirmed another season, but it also hasn’t pulled the plug. Since the finale just released, there’s a chance the network is watching how audiences react before making any big decisions.
The show, led by Scott Speedman, follows a private investigator with a complicated past. His history includes time behind bars and a previous life as a newspaper photographer, which gives him a slightly different perspective when it comes to solving cases. By the time the finale rolled around, things seemed to be moving toward closure. The episode, titled ‘Even Walls Fall Down’, brought long-running questions to the surface. R.J. and his circle finally figured out why Victor Ochoa (David Zayas) had been so determined to get his hands on that camera. As the pieces finally fell into place, R.J. had his team, including Emi (Jaina Lee Ortiz), Catherine (Adelaide Clemens), Mel (Bevin Bru), and Wish (Kevin Rankin) right beside him.
With Victor seemingly out of the picture and the immediate danger fading, there was a sense of relief among the group. Moreover, R.J. also avoided going back to prison, which had been a constant concern throughout the season. But the calm didn’t last long. In a final moment, Victor was discovered floating face down in his pool. That moment changed everything. Instead of closing the book, the story opens a whole new chapter. The big question now is simple, but far from easy to answer: Who killed Victor? And more importantly, how does that connect back to R.J.? Speaking to PEOPLE, Speedman hinted that if the show gets another run, things could take a much darker turn for the character.
The fallout from Victor’s death won’t stay in the background. In fact, it might land right on R.J.’s doorstep. “It raises the stakes for the character and the show itself,” he explained, “Again, the balance between the light and the darkness of our show, that's really going to put R.J. ... He's going to be one of the number one suspects, and that whole group is going to be put into the spotlight.” That comment alone gives a pretty clear idea of where the story could head. Instead of chasing criminals, R.J. might find himself answering questions from law enforcement officials. For now, though, it's a waiting game as ratings and streaming numbers will likely play a role in what happens next.
