Will there be a Season 7 of Netflix's 'Black Mirror'? Here's what to expect from the next part of dystopian anthology
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: The ominous Charlie Brooker’s creation, ‘Black Mirror’ returned for the sixth installment with an official warning that served as a small synopsis from Netflix. This acute piece of caution was, “You’ve been wondering. You’ve been waiting. You’ve been warned. The sixth season of Charlie Brooker’s Black Mirror is BACK. The most unpredictable, unclassifiable, and unexpected season yet is arriving.” As soon as this was released, the fans went berserk with their theories and found it hard to curb their anticipation. Now after the release of the Netflix show, fans cannot help but wonder, when will the next season arrive?
The sixth season had five episodes, all dealing with the themes of alternate reality, moral choices, folklore, technological disruptions, and a thirst to push cinematic boundaries. ‘Joan is Awful’, ‘Loch Henry’, ‘Beyond the Sea’, ‘Mazey Day’ and Demon 79’ were once again noble attempts to portray the twisted nature of human emotions and technological advancements. But the fans of the show love the franchise to the extent that they will devour as many unique and off-beat tales presented to them. With that, a seventh season of ‘Black Mirror’ should be in the works by now as per them. And this might be true because every ‘Black Mirror’ season pushes the boundaries that its predecessor set and look for another series of original ideas to be explored.
When is ‘Black Mirror’ Season 7 coming out?
Netflix is riding on the success of a massive franchise and will spend no time starting work on the next season. Given that the sixth season took almost four years to come out, the streaming giant is expected to cut down that time and bring it to almost two years, with an expected release date somewhere in 2025. Given the timeline of the show, every season or a special ‘Black Mirror’ film is released within a gap of one to two years. If not for the pandemic, the sixth installment would have returned sooner.
Charlie Brooker also expressed his trouble writing the episodes during the pandemic which only prolonged the wait for the fans. But given that the world is now up and running after COVID and can take the hard-hitting, end-of-the-world stories, the series will be able to return in a shorter time. Even though Netflix has not yet set a release date for season seven, but given Brooker’s massive following, the show is expected to return sooner than expected.
What themes will ‘Black Mirror’ Season 7 feature?
As per Brooker, when he’s writing the show, he has one set premise that he keeps returning to which is, "worst-case scenario compounded.” The 52-year-old writer wants to challenge the notion of speculative fiction, stretch it, and allow his stories to take a turn for the unexpected. Dark comedy, political satire, surveillance, absurdity, psychological horror, human consciousness, artificial intelligence, data privacy, and consumerism will once again take center stage in the seventh season. There will again be innumerable stories to choose from for Brooker who still believes that he’s only getting started.
'Black Mirror' Season 6 is currently streaming on Netflix.
