Will Taylor Swift appear in ‘Chad Powers 2’? Here’s what we know as Hulu renews hit Glen Powell show
'Chad Powers,' starring Glen Powell, has been one of the surprise hits of the year. The six-episode series starring the 'Top Gun: Maverick' actor ended on a major cliffhanger, and with Hulu renewing the show for a second season, Powell has a major celeb cameo in his mind.
Powell serves as one of the executive producers, and while the production is yet to go on floors, he and co-star Perry Mattfeld hoped there would be a Taylor Swift cameo in the second instalment. Speaking to Variety in a recent interview, the duo hoped that the pop star could make an appearance. "I’m working my way to her,” Mattfeld told the outlet. "We’ll make sure she sees the series, and she’ll get it. I’m hoping because of Travis [Kelce], she’ll watch, and then we’ll connect and talk offense."
Powell added more to the statement, calling for Swift to make a cameo. "You already got me thinking about Season 2 cameos. T-Swift comin’ in hot,” Powell, a take that was seconded by co-creator Michael Waldron. "I’m an O.G. Country music Taylor fan. I was blasting Taylor’s first album when I was in college, so I’m in,” Waldron told Decider earlier. "My dream is to have Taylor write and record the Chad Powers love theme. You know how a lot of movies used to have that? That’s my dream."
Swift made headlines after getting engaged to Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. The series centered around Powell as an undercover football player in the sports-comedy series, and her appearance will surely draw more eyeballs to the show. With Swift declaring herself a major football fan, a 'Chad Powers' cameo also makes perfect sense.
Before the show's renewal, Powell had teased that there was more of a story to be told. "The reality is there’s a lot more story to be told," he told THR. "There was a construction early on for an arc of what the Catfish would look like. So we have a beginning, middle, and end in mind. But people have to tune in and show us they want to see it. We believe in this show. I believe we have a hit show here and one the world’s really going to love."
The cast, along with Powell and Mattfeld, includes Quentin Plair as Coach Byrd, Wynn Everett as Tricia Yeager, Frankie A. Rodriguez as Danny, and Steve Zahn as Coach Jake Hudson. Season 1 of the show is streaming on Hulu.
