Netflix renews ‘Love on the Spectrum’ for Season 5, but a fan-favorite won’t return for the next chapter
Netflix is sticking with a formula that has built a loyal audience over the years. ‘Love on the Spectrum’ has officially been renewed for a fifth season in the United States. The decision comes not long after the fourth installment made its debut, showing that the streaming platform isn’t ready to say goodbye to the dating series just yet. According to Variety, the renewal was confirmed following strong viewership and continued interest in the show’s approach to relationships. For those who have been following along, the series has carved out its own space in the crowded reality TV world. It focuses on young adults on the autism spectrum as they look for love, connection, and sometimes just a good first date. It’s simple in concept, but the execution has made it stand apart from the usual dating formats that thrive on over-the-top drama.
The show’s previous season managed to land a spot in Netflix’s Global Top 10 rankings for a couple of weeks. That kind of performance, paired with steady fan engagement, likely made the renewal decision a pretty easy call behind closed doors. Awards recognition has also followed the series over the years. The show picked up multiple Primetime Emmy Awards, including wins in 2025 for outstanding unstructured reality program and casting. Before that, it collected honors in 2024 for casting and directing, and even earlier, in 2022, it walked away with several trophies, including editing. However, the upcoming fifth season will be missing one familiar face. Connor Tomlinson, who has appeared in multiple seasons, has confirmed that he will not be returning.
In a statement shared with Variety, he explained that “It is with humility and a heavy heart that I share I will not be partaking in Season 5. I feel like three seasons is enough to tell my story and find love on my own time.” He also mentioned plans to pursue acting, saying, “Don’t worry about me — I’m still going to be in the acting business, especially voice work. I’ve always been a huge fan of animation and would love to be involved with a TV show.” Meanwhile, Season 4, which premiered on April 1 to coincide with Autism Awareness Month, continues to check in on both returning participants and new faces.
Viewers once again meet couples who have been part of the journey for a while, alongside individuals stepping into the experience for the first time. The latest batch of episodes covers a wide range of moments, from early, slightly awkward meetups to bigger life decisions like moving in together. Behind the scenes, the series continues to be guided by executive producers Cian O’Clery and Karina Holden, with production handled by Northern Pictures. Furthermore, it’s also worth noting that the U.S. version isn’t the only one out there. The original Australian edition wrapped up its run after airing two well-received seasons from 2019 through 2021.
