PASADENA, CALIFORNIA: When father-son team Flewnt & Inkabee performed on stage during the 'America's Got Talent' Season 19 quarterfinals, Simon Cowell gave them some unexpected advice. Was he correct, though? The first performance of the night was Flewnt & Inkabee, a 12-year-old rapper and his father. On the Tuesday, August 13 episode, they aimed to "give the Aboriginal people a voice" with their rap, which included a chorus they performed as well.

Howie Mandel praised their energy, Heidi Klum admired the 'coolness' and confidence of their performance, Sofía Vergara valued their father-son bond, and Simon Cowell acknowledged their cleverness in coming to the competition together. However, Simon cautioned that they may ultimately "need to separate." While Simon's advice may be prudent for the future, the 12-year-old boy's current performance alongside his father is a significant boost to his confidence and an invaluable learning experience. Although they may eventually need to part ways, their focus right now should be on pursuing the 'AGT' title together!

Who are Flewnt & Inkabee in 'AGT' Season 19?

Rapping comes effortlessly to 12-year-old Inkabee, a testament to his natural talent. Since he was seven, he has performed alongside his award-winning musician father, Flewnt.

Being a young parent helped shape the close relationship between father and son. Flewnt had Inkabee when he was just sixteen. "Having him young, growing up with him. It’s been incredible," the pleased father remarked. The father and son are also proud of their First Nations origins as Noongar Wongi tribe members.

"My name was given to me by my grandpa," Inkabee said to the judges. The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples of Australia have a rich history that spans thousands of years, marking one of the world’s longest-continuous cultures.

'AGT' Season 19 duo Flewnt & Inkabee bonds over music

"Now, the best music I make is because my son is by my side," said Flewnt, actual name Josh Eggington. "Hip hop brought us all the way here," he informed Simon before beginning their performance during the audition.

"We do songs together as father and son, and we bond over music." The popular Perth rapper introduced Inkabee to the music world with their December 2022 single, 'Beat the Odds,' which they co-wrote and produced together.

They often infuse their lyrics with themes of optimism and action, resonating with audiences. A video of Inkabee's stage debut went viral, and the preteen has already garnered two West Australian Music Awards nominations. The duo recently wrapped up their tour at the 2024 Perth Festival, which showcased First Nations music and culture across Western Australia

Flewnt & Inkabee performed an original song for 'AGT' Season 19 audition

For their audition, Inkabee and Flewnt performed a song they co-wrote titled 'We Dat Good.' According to Flewnt, all musical selections are made collaboratively between father and son. 'It's a full collaboration.'

As they started the first line, the judges leaned back in amazement. Before long, the entire audience was on their feet, dancing, with Sofia even raising her hands in the air and joining in the fun."Wait, Inkabee, they saying an 11-year-old shouldn't be doing what you doing," Flewnt rapped. 'You know, let's just show 'em, my boy.'

This was Inkabee's cue to deliver an epic solo rap, a standout moment in the performance. As they finished with the lyric 'We dat good,' the audience erupted in a standing ovation, and Simon confirmed, "You are that good."
