Will Eddie Munson return in ‘Stranger Things’ Season 5? Fan Theory Explained
Will Joseph Quinn's Eddie Munson return? That's one of the major talking points in the finale of 'Stranger Things' Season 5. As it stands, the creators, Duffer Brothers, have denied a return, but that hasn't stopped fans from speculating and theorizing about a potential comeback.
One of the fans took to Reddit to share some thoughts on Eddie's return. "Plus...and arguably the biggest thing I noticed. Eleven brought Max from the dead...what says Henry wouldn't bring Eddie back in a similar vein as the Kas theory? Plus, out of everyone that Vecna targeted specifically, Eddie would make the most sense for usage in manipulation for the gang, especially Dustin. And we are supposedly getting a Dustin storyline in season 5. Coincidence? Nah. No way. Unless I'm reaching, which it definitely does seem like it," the theory read.
The theory further added, "Truthfully, without rose tinted or theory glasses, even if they would bring Eddie back, the more likely scenario would be just memories, similarly to Billy, but with how hush hush it's been from Jospeh Quinn himself, and should I even mention the Rise of Hellfire comic that kinda came outta nowhere that's a literal backstory of how Eddie got into D&D? Especially in this timeframe of waiting? 3 FULL YEARS after showing us a character that lasted for one season?"
Eddie died a heroic death in season 4, and his connection with Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo) was explained in season 5. The latter is seen coming to terms with Eddie's death, and his emotional moment with Steve (Joe Keery) indicates how the creators have managed to make Eddie an integral part of the new season ahead of the finale.
For now, the theory seems believable enough. However, it remains to be seen if the creators indeed have a surprise planned with a potential Eddie cameo. There are enough storylines that need to be connected and explained in a runtime of two hours and eight minutes.
The official synopsis reads, "Hawkins is scarred by the opening of the Rifts, and our heroes are united by a single goal: find and kill Vecna,” the official synopsis reads. “But he has vanished — his whereabouts and plans unknown. Complicating their mission, the government has placed the town under military quarantine and intensified its hunt for Eleven, forcing her back into hiding. As the anniversary of Will’s disappearance approaches, so does a heavy, familiar dread. The final battle is looming — and with it, a darkness more powerful and more deadly than anything they’ve faced before. To end this nightmare, they’ll need everyone — the full party — standing together, one last time."
'Stranger Things' Season 5 finale releases on New Year's Eve.
