'Chicago P.D.' Season 13: Jason Beghe's Hank Voight was missing from episode 19 and it makes complete sense
'Chicago P.D.' Season 13 has finally returned after an extended Fall hiatus and is moving ahead with renewed vigor towards the impending season finale. The recently aired episode 19 of the NBC police procedural show was titled 'Going Back' and was remarkable in one aspect: the absence of Intelligence Unit supercop Hank Voight, played by actor Jason Beghe. As the long-time commander of 'Chicago P.D.', Voight has been at the forefront of solving numerous complex cases and leading this unit through thick and thin. His importance has been dialed up to the extent that his absence has startled viewers.
Despite Voight's absence from the latest episode, the NBC show did offer a logical explanation for his recent whereabouts. It so happened that Voight was unavailable to investigate the latest chilling mystery because he was on duty elsewhere, handling administrative matters. The latest episode further saw Adam Ruzek leading a harrowing investigation into the origins of an incriminating piece of video footage. Ruzek went on an evidence-gathering run on his own before things went south and he was injured. Meanwhile, Kim Burgess promptly contacted headquarters to share an update on Ruzek with Eva Imani and to gather more information about the investigation.
During the course of their conversation, Imani explained, "Platt notified Voight. He's still out of state testifying in court." Therafter, it is quite evident that Voight has had little time to himself in the ongoing season, given his out-of-state court hearings and his involvement in the cases that he helped solve. Nevertheless, the sleuth shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon. Voight was at the epicenter of the investigation into the shrewd blackmail scheme perpetuated by his CPD superior earlier this season. In the aftermath of the investigation, he turned his attention to the newest recruit in the Intelligence Unit, Imani. The latter took her time in bringing Voight into her confidence and eventually revealed her prolonged search for her estranged sister to him. When Imani finally came up with a promising lead on her sister's whereabouts, Voight graciously offered his assistance in solving the case. Imani was understandably moved to tears and accepted his help.
Mandi is a new addition to the cast of 'Chicago P.D.' Season 13, and in a previous interview with NBC Insider, she had opened up about her working relationship with her unit boss when she said, "They have a lot of similarities, the two of them. Like, reluctantly, you know, Imani’s not quick to realize it. Everything in her wants to push (Voight) away, because they’re in the same space. And like I said, she’s not used to working with others, but they move in similar ways. And their goal is obviously the same." 'Chicago P.D.' airs new episodes every Wednesday at 10 p.m. ET on NBC.
