The last episode of 'New Amsterdam' ended with a big win and also a potentially huge loss for Dr Max Goodwin (Ryan Eggold). After a thrill-a-minute episode where Max almost loses his eyesight due to a chemical spill in the hospital, there finally seems to be a happily ever after in sight for Dr Max and Dr Helen Sharpe (Freema Agyeman) when Max finally confesses the depth of his feelings for Helen.
Just as the two lean in for a kiss though, the romantic moment is shattered with the news that Max's in-laws are filing for custody of Max's daughter Luna because they believe he is an unfit parent. It seems that fans will have to wait till June 1 to find out what is in store for Max as a father.

The last episode of 'New Amsterdam' saw Dr Max and Dr Helen getting more intimate than fans had ever seen them, with a shower scene being thrown in the mix. A shower in the middle of a chemical spill in the hospital is probably not the romantic setting that fans had in mind, but it seemed to do the job. While Max was temporarily blinded by the effects of the chemical spill, it did help him to see the light when it comes to his feelings about Helen. Max tells Helen when he wakes up and finds her at his hospital bedside, that the most important thing in his life is her.
But if you thought that this was the time finally for the Sharpwin kiss, think again. The two this time are not interrupted by reservations from either of them, but by the landline in Max's hospital room. It's Max's in-laws on the other end of the phone, saying they are taking Max's daughter Luna back with them and that's not all, they are filing for custody. We have seen for some time that Max's mother-in-law, in particular, has had her doubts about Max's abilities as a single parent. Will Max lose Luna, just as he has possibly found his happy ending with Helen? Fans will have to wait till June 1 to find out.

'This is Us' will take the 10 pm slot normally held by 'New Amsterdam' for its big finale episode on May 25.
When will 'New Amsterdam' Season 3 Episode 13 air?
The penultimate episode of Season 3 of 'New Amsterdam' titled 'Fight Time' will air on Tuesday, June 1 at 10 pm ET/PT. According to an official synopsis of the episode, "Sharpe offers help to a reluctant Mina. Max is faced with a tough decision about Luna. Bloom and Casey treat a patient who has been hiding a lifelong secret. Iggy finds himself in a very dangerous predicament. Reynolds treats a young heart transplant patient with astonishing symptoms."
