After the intense trailer for the latest episode of 'New Amsterdam' fans were ready for a Sharpwin specific romantic episode. The trailer showed Dr Helen Sharpe (Freema Agyeman) cradling Dr Max Goodwin (Ryan Eggold) in her arms and sobbing over him as he seems to have lost his vision.

The episode did not start off promisingly for Sharpwin fans though. Dr Max Goodwin (Ryan Eggold) tries to reach out to Dr Helen Sharpe (Freema Agyeman) and strike up a casual conversation to which she asks what he wants in a rather snappy manner. Max said he just wanted to check in on her. But Helen is having none of it.

One fan tweeted, "Max chasing after Helen, wanting in her head and space is my CANDY. #Sharpwin #NewAmsterdam"

But with a chemical spill that occurs, there is no time for casual conversations or indeed an attempt to keep relationships like the one between Max and Helen casual either. When Max goes missing in the middle of the chemical spill disaster, Helen goes looking for him and finds him in the basement, holding a pipe trying to control the extent of the spill. Helen tells him to leave immediately she will hold the pipe, but Max says that he can't, she says why not, he says because he can't see.

Before fans allowed themselves to delve into the emotional moment, they had some practical questions. One fan tweeted, "I never knew how much Max irked my nerves until this episode. Why are you trying to deal with a chemical spill with no protection on?" Another fan tweeted, "And here she go, standing in a puddle of some type of chemical with heels on. I can’t with these two". Fans did allow themselves to feel the bittersweet romance of Helen being at Max's side though. One fan tweeted, "On the bright side Helen might be the one to nurse Max to recovery and might bring them closer."

Fans have been wanting Sharpwin to come closer after what seemed to be an insurmountable distance between the two of late. A shower scene is as close as one can get, but this kind of shower scene in the midst of a chemical spill is not what fans had in mind. One fan tweeted, "Probably not the circumstances everyone thought these two would be getting undressed under." Another tweeted, "me: i want sharpwin shower scene david schulner: you didn’t specify what kind #NewAmsterdam #Sharpwin"

Sometimes though it does take almost losing one's sight, to help realize what is truly important. Max thankfully recovers and when Helen is by his bedside, Max finally tells her that the most important thing in his life is her. But if you thought that this was the time finally for the Sharpwin kiss, think again. The two this time are not interrupted by reservations from either of them, but by the landline in the Max's hospital room. Fans were furious. One fan tweeted, "THEY WERE GONNA KISS!!! ABOLISH LANDLINES!!!! #NewAmsterdam"

It's Luna's grandparents on the other end of the phone saying they are taking Luna back with them and that's not all, they are filing for custody. We have seen for some time that Max's mother in law in particular has had her doubts about Max's abilities as a single parent. Fans are not surprisingly not feeling the love for Max's in laws. One fan tweeted, "Luna’s grandparents interrupted an almost Sharpwin kiss and kidnapped Max’s daughter." Another fan tweeted, "I HATE GEORGIA’S PARENTS. WITH A PASSION."

Will Max lose Luna, just as he has possibly found his happy ending with Helen? To find out you can catch the latest episodes of 'New Amsterdam' on Tuesdays at 10 pm on NBC.
