Marvel holds back from releasing 'Avengers: Doomsday' trailer online and it makes sense

Marvel had previously released four brief teasers for the upcoming film that played in theatres before the screenings of 'Avatar: Fire & Ash.'

There's no doubt about the fact that 'Avengers: Doomsday' is shaping up to be one of the biggest theatrical releases in 2026. In an interesting turn of events, Marvel unveiled the first full-length theatrical trailer for the upcoming Phase 6 Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, happy as the occasion might be, most fans of the franchise worldwide won't be able to watch the trailer and might even have to wait several weeks before Marvel officially releases it online.

The publicity campaign for 'Avengers: Doomsday' had previously adopted an ingenious marketing strategy. They were rolling out teasers to lead into the James Cameron movie 'Avatar: Fire & Ash' in theatres for four weeks straight. The teasers were released online a few days after their theatrical debut. Now, as luck would have it, the Las Vegas CinemaCon was recently held and featured numerous theatrical exhibitors who attended presentations on upcoming movies. It was at this illustrious event that the first full-length trailer for the upcoming movie was projected. Fans of the franchise were understandably heartbroken, since the online release of the trailer didn't coincide with the event's conclusion.

Unfortunate as it might be, the possibility of Marvel releasing the trailer to the wider masses so soon after the Las Vegas CinemaCon was almost nil to begin with. Several factors might have influenced the studio's decision, with the most important being that, unlike the New York ComicCon or the San Diego ComicCon, which are mostly run by fans, the Las Vegas CinemaCon is an exclusive event specifically designed to host film insiders. With the broad goal of maintaining hype for 'Avengers: Doomsday' in mind, Marvel's PR and marketing teams gave the theatrical owners a taste of what they could expect. This would undoubtedly go a long way in ensuring that the upcoming film secures the highest number of screens for exhibition.

Moreover, the security at the Las Vegas CinemaCon would have made sure that the trailer did not leak anywhere else. Although Marvel didn't follow the presentation by releasing the trailer online, other studios did. Universal Studios released the trailer for the upcoming 'Focker-In-Law' after the presentation. Paramount, on their part, followed suit with their trailer for 'Street Fighter'. Disney, on the other hand, chose to release the trailer of 'The Mandalorian and Grogu' online after the end of the presentation. In any case, one might speculate that it won't be long before Marvel makes amends and releases the 'Avengers: Doomsday' trailer online. The theatrical release of 'The Mandalorian and Grogu' on May 22 is a viable option for the studio to unveil the trailer in theatres. 'Avengers: Doomsday' releases on December 18.
