'Duck Dynasty: The Revival' sees John Godwin announce retirement as Willie plans out-of-the-box send-off
A&E series ‘Duck Dynasty: The Revival’ Season 2 Episode 8 saw a major career move for John Godwin, as he decided to retire, or semi-retire. The latest episode of the show featured cast members, including Willie Robertson, Korie Robertson, Miss Kay Robertson, John Luke Robertson, Si Robertson, Bella Robertson, Sadie Robertson Huff, Christina Huff, Lil Will Robertson, and more. Fans witnessed the long-time Duck Commander employee John Godwin announcing his retirement after almost 25 years. Korie shared her thoughts on throwing a themed party after the announcement and said, “We’re thinking western thing, because Godwin was a bull rider at one time.”
After listening to Korie's ideas, Willie confessed to the cameras: “I’m not gonna lie. I’m a little insulted. No one even asked my opinion. I’m great at planning parties.” After a few of them shared their plans for the retirement party, Willie noted that he wanted to make a Western film, “I think this idea should be bigger. I got the idea…This is the idea… a western movie. We’re gonna make a movie. Godwin is gonna star in his own Western movie.” In his private confession, he admitted that he had wanted to do his own Western movie. “Growing up, Phil was obsessed with ‘em. In fact, all the Duckmen videos were Western-themed.” He shared this in a joint confessional with his wife, who noted, “But it was Godwin’s retirement.” However, he responded that Godwin was “gonna love it.”
They all somehow agreed on moving forward with the movie. Further in the episode, cast members were seen rehearsing as Willie told everyone, “I’m sure this is your first movie. But remember, stick to the script, play your part, everything will come out good in the end.” The script mentioned the movie was “Written by Willie Robertson. Directed by Willie Robertson. Produced by Willie Robertson.” Willie’s daughter Bella pointed that out and added that it seemed like “The Willie Robertson show.” He responded, saying everyone was “missing the main point,” the title: 'The Godwin, The Bad, And The Ugly.' "This is all for Godwin," he added.
Willie shared more in a private confession, “They say write what you know. So I took pretty much every Western I’d ever seen, smashed ‘em all together, and then put my own little twist on it.” Later, Godwin was seen stating the script was “all wrong.” He read, “The smartest and most handsome of four brothers. Gun-slinging, semi-retired CEO. I ain’t a CEO.” Bella asked whether Godwin was playing Willie. But he insisted that it was “not him” but “just a person” like him. As soon as the cast members read their characters, they also brought up similar issues. Bella mentioned that her character description seemed a “little personal.” She noted it described her as “sharp, cheating, wild card, sarcastic, mean, and nasty.” However, Korie liked how she was described. They shot the film, and later everyone enjoyed it on the projector.
