Why did Clay Gravesande's father cry? ‘Love Is Blind’ star’s mother blames ex-husband for ‘passing brokenness’ to son
CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA: 'Love Is Blind' Season 6 star Clay Gravesande shocked Amber Desiree "AD" at the altar by saying "I don't".
AD was taken aback, as she was certain Clay would say "I do". Subsequently, he explained that he wasn't ready for marriage and didn't feel responsible enough to be a husband at that moment.
Following this emotional moment, Clay's mother, Margarita, had a bold conversation with her ex-husband Trevor, who is Clay's father.
During their talk, Margarita urged Trevor to apologize to Clay for the emotional struggles he had endured due to his past antics.
Trevor, visibly emotional, found it challenging to open up to his ex-wife. He revealed how he had never had a good role model and had never received any advice from his own father, hence, failed to be a good role model for their son too.
Margarita explained, "Marriage is sacred and he struggles with that and all those emotions and feelings he took that to the altar and a lot of that stems from things that you have to explain and apologize."
Referring to how Trevor's past has had an emotional toll on Clay, she added, "He took a lot on his back, and although we came from broken families that doesn't mean that we have to pass on that brokenness to our kids."
Why did 'Love Is Blind' star Clay Gravesande's parents split?
In Love Is Blind Season 6, Clay opened up to Amber about the challenges within his family. He shared that his parents had separated due to his father's infidelity, which occurred within seven years of their marriage.
Clay described his father as a poor role model who objectified women and had a history of cheating. He even warned Amber that his father might make advances toward her.
During a vacation, Clay admitted to struggling with the idea of the perceived necessity to cheat in a relationship, recognizing it as a negative aspect. He disclosed that he had never witnessed a faithful Black relationship, highlighting the normalized nature of infidelity in his upbringing.
Clay revealed that he grew up in an environment where cheating was common, recounting instances where his father involved him in what he called "infidelity trips." These were occasions when his father would take Clay along to places where he intended to cheat on Clay's mother.
Why did Clay Gravesande say no to Amber Desiree “AD”?
Clay and Amber initially decided to move forward with their marriage plans. They seemed prepared for the commitment until the moment they stood at the altar.
When asked if they would say "I do," Amber confidently expressed her love for Clay, stating that he was incredibly powerful to her and she was deeply in love.
However, when it was Clay's turn to respond, he admitted that although he loved AD, he realized at that moment he wasn't ready for marriage.
Clay acknowledged that he wasn't currently responsible enough to be a husband and asked for more time. This unexpected revelation broke Amber's heart right there at the altar.
