SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA: It looks like the gossip YouTube channel Sojang has finally started to anger the bigwigs as Ateez has become the next K-pop act to allegedly take a hit at the channel. We first had BTS’ V announcing that he would be suing the account for spreading malicious rumors about him and other K-pop idols who are not allowed to take legal action. Next, Red Velvet’s Yeri slammed the channel for claiming she was copying Blackpink Jennie’s outfits. Meanwhile, Kang Daniel’s label tried to take down a malicious chat forum that was allegedly popularised by Sojang.

Where there is fame there will always be antis and trolls. And as usual, there are some who try to profit off toxic fans by creating gossip and rumors. While most companies do not pay attention to such hate accounts, YouTuber Sojang has reached a cult-like status. Despite fans and Knetizens time and again sharing that the contents and rumors of her videos are baseless, they end up going viral and creating scandals. A lot of serious scandals have been started by Sojang's videos from EXO’s Sehun allegedly visiting a sex salon to Kim Shin-young supposedly being in a relationship with Oh My Girl’s Jiho.

YouTuber starts NMIXX Sullyoon dating rumor, fans say 'we need to sue'

Who is Sojang and why are K-pop fans angry with the YouTuber

Fans who have been trying to dig into the YouTuber's past claim that Sojang is a Korean woman in her mid-40s. Despite fans blacklisting her, the videos on the channel have an average of 1 million views. The YouTuber is also profiting from it by uploading monetised videos and membership-only content. But her content is harming the reputation of several K-pop acts as several viewers end up spreading her rumors like wildfire. On August 17, KQ Entertainment shared that they would be taking legal action and suing a YouTuber that many think is Sojang due to her first video on Ateez.

During the K-pop sports day ISAC, the YouTuber created a video claiming that Ateez was not treating their fans well. With ISAC being a free event, the idols participating are in charge of their fandoms when it comes to comfort and food. There are several big label K-pop acts that hired food trucks and gave out expensive lunch boxes for the fans who attended. Ateez too did something similar but Sojang ended up claiming that they had cheaped out. Ateez fans who were present immediately refuted her claims but the rumor reached non-fans who took it as an opportunity to drag Ateez.

Ateez to take legal action

On August 17, KQ shared that they had taken legal action on August 16 against a YouTube channel for a malicious video. They added, “In addition, the YouTuber in question created a video spreading rumors as if they were true and was able to make a profit through it, which we judged to be very malicious. In particular, for deceiving fans supporting ATEEZ, we have decided to take strong legal action.” KQ is urging other hate accounts to delete malicious posts on Ateez as they will continue to take strict action. Reports suggest that the YouTuber is Sojang since she is the only one who recently uploaded a hate video on Ateez.

‘Well deserved’

Fans made comments like, “GET HER,” and “If I was a 47 yo woman I’d simply feel embarrassed to stir drama for views lmao like just go get a real job or something. Some videos she made were truly disgusting and I feel like the lawsuit is well deserved. I hope other companies will follow and maybe she’ll finally learn her lesson.” One fan commended KQ, “They didnt even post anything abt ateez but KQ sues them while every day they post abt enhypen & nct but hybe and sm don’t do shit 💀 that’s how u know who really cares abt artists.”

A Knetizen wrote, “This person has been tormenting idols for years living her life like that, isn't it time for her to go to jail?” Another added, “If we simply sue her, nothing will change. We need to sue the commenters who are spreading those rumors around too.” One wondered, “I don't think it's only Sojang behind that youtube channel. She probably has a whole team who are helping her. No way a 50 year-old woman can do this all alone. So many artists have been receiving unnecessary hate because of her lies, she needs to rot in jail.”

One fan wondered if it was another male YouTuber who took down their Ateez hate video after fans mass reported it, “We didn't report sojang to kq yet tho, the one we mass reported was only specifically done harm to ateez' name and kq also didn't mention any names.” Another felt it was Sojang as her video had circulated all over K-pop Twitter, “They spent almost half the video talking badly about ateez and lying about the isac fan gifts.”
