Who is Lloyd Jones? ‘Love Undercover’ star punched a man several times during a nightclub brawl
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Lloyd Jones, who is set to make an appearance in Peacock's upcoming dating reality show 'Love Undercover', began his professional football career in the Premier League back in 2013, representing Liverpool.
The 27-year-old center-back has had stints with various clubs over the years, with Cambridge United being one of them. In 2023, he made a move to Charlton Athletic, where he continues to showcase his skills on the field.
Throughout his career, Jones has experienced both highs and lows. In 2017, during his last loan stint with Swindon while still a Liverpool player, Jones found himself in trouble after getting into a scuffle at a Cheltenham nightclub. At that point, Jones was found to have repeatedly struck a man who was already feeling unwell at the club.
This incident led to the footballer's arrest, and he later admitted to his involvement in the altercation, resulting in him being ordered to pay compensation and fulfill 80 hours of community service.
'Love Undercover' star Llyod Jones was regretful about his actions during the nightclub altercation
During an interview with The Athletic, Jones opened up about the infamous nightclub brawl from 2017. He expressed remorse for his behavior during the altercation, acknowledging that he made a mistake and wished he had handled the situation differently.
Jones reflected on the incident, recognizing the impact it had on his reputation and understanding the importance of learning from past mistakes. The athlete's candid admission shed light on his personal growth and commitment to making better choices in the future.
“That was hard. It was seriously difficult. I was 21. I was coming back from my knee injury at Blackpool so I went to Swindon for game time. I was playing a lot but I had a stop-start season as my knee and ankle injury had changed the way I moved. I was getting little muscle injuries," he told the media outlet.
He further added, "It was frustrating. I came back and they put me on the bench and I ended up going for a night out — a night that went wrong."
His primary worry at that moment was how his family and the Liverpool community would perceive him.
The former Liverpool player continued, “I was worried about my family and their reaction. They were stressed for me and I didn’t want them to be. It is just how long it all took. It wasn’t nice to have hanging over my head."
"I didn’t realise the effects of what had happened until three weeks after and then I had to ring Alex Inglethorpe (Liverpool academy director). I was absolutely shitting myself. That was a really tough time. It happened in March and I had the summer to myself thinking about the trial. In a way, that was a tougher time than any of my injuries," he concluded.
Did Liverpool fire 'Love Undercover' star Lloyd Jones after his nightclub fight?
On the flip side, Liverpool stood by Jones during his challenging period and chose not to terminate his contract following his nightclub altercation.
Talking of the club, Jones said, “Liverpool were really supportive. I remember my first day back and Steven Gerrard, who was the under-18s coach then, gave me a tap on the head and that was enough for me — it was a knowing tap. It was enough to say, ‘I know you have messed up but it is going to be fine’.”
Jones departed Liverpool without appearing in a first-team match and later signed a permanent contract with Luton Town in January 2018.
He went on to say, "I left five months after the trial but that wasn’t the reason. I would have left anyway. I wanted to go because I thought it was best for me. How is a 21-year-old really going to compete with someone like Virgil van Dijk? I just wanted to rebuild my career and get playing.”
Why did Lloyd Jones and Megan McKenna split?
In August 2022, rumors of a romantic relationship between Lloyd Jones and Megan McKenna began to surface. McKenna, a former Towie star, confirmed in a TikTok video that she had recently become single in November and was in the early stages of getting to know a new man. The specific details surrounding the breakup between Jones and McKenna remain unclear as of now.
'Love Undercover' premieres on May 9, 2024, only on Peacock.
