Who are the Matthews Sisters? 'American Idol' Season 22 contestants have appeared before on 'The Voice' Season 19
CENTRE, ALABAMA: Fans familiar with 'The Voice' may spot familiar faces on the forthcoming season of 'American Idol', as Mia Matthews and Jacy Matthews from the trio 'Worth The Wait' disclosed that they participated in the auditions for the show. Both sisters took to social media with individual Instagram posts to announce the news. It seems they auditioned for American Idol as solo artists, rather than as a duo or representing 'Worth The Wait'.
Mia and Jacy Matthews initially gained recognition on 'The Voice' Season 19, where they participated alongside their mother, Tara Matthews, as part of the country trio 'Worth The Wait'. Their captivating rendition of Linda Ronstadt’s “When Will I Be Loved” during the blind auditions led to a remarkable four-chair turn. Ultimately, they decided to join Team Blake Shelton. 'Worth the Wait' continued to captivate audiences and progressed to the live playoffs before eventually being eliminated.

The Matthew sisters went viral for their impromptu performance of “The Star-Spangled Banner"
The Matthews Sisters from Centre got their unexpected big break at Walmart's customer service counter.
Jacy, 11, Mia, 12, and Sadie Matthews, 18, were waiting in line when they spontaneously performed "The Star-Spangled Banner." A bystander captured the performance on video and shared it on Facebook, leading to a viral sensation that showcased the sisters' remarkable three-part harmonies. This unexpected exposure has put the Gadsden natives in the spotlight, garnering attention and excitement around their musical talent.
The serendipitous recording occurred shortly after the family's move to Centre from their previous residence on Noccalula Road. For Sadie, this event felt like a divine sign that they were on the right path. She believes that everything happens for a reason and that the viral video was just the beginning of greater opportunities awaiting them.
'American Idol' Season 22 contestants Mia and Jacy Matthews even auditioned for 'America’s Got Talent'
In the past, the girls were invited to audition for yet another reality talent show called 'America’s Got Talent'. Producers from the show 'America's Got Talent' contacted the girls regarding a potential performance on the show, as revealed by Tara. The sisters had mentioned their versatility in various genres but expressed their intention to focus on a pop-country direction for their performance.
Last year, during a performance at Ole Red Gatlinburg, 'Worth The Wait' received an unexpected surprise from Blake Shelton himself. The "No Body" singer dialed in to the venue using his official red phone. "Hey there! It's your old coach calling in to check up on you guys," Shelton greeted them via video chat. "I just wanted to pop in and say hi. It's been a while since we last saw each other... I can't even remember when. I think I caught a glimpse of you once after the show, and it warms my heart to see that you're still out there doing your thing.
Matthews sisters prioritize passion for singing over any competition success
Tara Matthews, the mother of the Matthews Sisters, had her own group called the Lookout Mountain Cloggers and Performers. She passed on her passion for singing, dancing, and performing to her daughters, teaching them to embrace opportunities wherever they arise, whether it's in restaurants, shops, or even checkout lanes. Tara noted that a simple mention of someone having a bad day often leads to a spontaneous song from the girls.
While winning competitions or appearing on television is not their primary goal, the Matthews Sisters are eager to pursue singing as far as it can take them and potentially build careers in music. Tara observes the positive impact that singing for audiences has on her daughters, emphasizing that they take their responsibilities seriously while still cherishing their youth.
Despite their young age, the girls understand the significance of their performances and the joy they bring to people. Tara believes that witnessing these reactions has softened their spirits and reinforced their dedication to the musical journey set before them.
