'Love Story': From Burton-Taylor to Davis-Dee — 5 legendary couples Season 2 could focus on
'Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette' recently aired its ninth and final episode on Thursday, illustrating the romance between former U.S. President John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette. Created by Conor Hines, the FX and Hulu show portrayed a moving depiction of a real-life romance. Although Season 2 of the anthology series is yet to be greenlit, anticipation is high for a second instalment. If there's one thing, it's that the show will have no shortage of famous couples to bring their love stories to life. Here we take a look at five such couples who could be featured on the sophomore season of 'Love Story'.
1) Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor
Hines had previously expressed interest in bringing this iconic couple's story to screen if a potential second season of 'Love Story' were to happen. Widely recognized as one of Hollywood's most legendary couples, Taylor and Burton began their scandalous romance while shooting 'Cleopatra'. An anthology series about their love story wouldn't have to deal with many dull passages since the couple didn't have any! Add to that the time they spent filming 'Who's Afraid Of Virginia Wolf' and that's it!
2) Ossie Davis and Ruby Dee
Davis and Dee fell in love with each other on the sets of the 1946 play 'Jeb'. They eventually tied the knot in 1948 and remained married for nearly 6 decades. Apart from starring together in several projects, both on stage and on screen, Dee and Davis were also resilient civil rights activists. In other words, they were a true power couple.
3) Laurence Olivier and Vivian Leigh
Speaking about his relationship with Leigh in 'Lord Larry: A Personal Portrait of Laurence Olivier', Olivier remarked, "This wasn’t just out of lust. This was love that I really didn’t ask for but was drawn into." The relationship began as an affair, and both Olivier and Leigh kept it secret for several years before exchanging vows. Their relationship didn't prove to be smooth sailing and was often interrupted by their individual careers. The couple ultimately went their separate ways before Leigh's death in 1967.
4) John Dunne and Joan Didion
Both Dunne and Didion were exceptional authors, and they married in 1964. Leading interesting lives in New York and Los Angeles, Didion and Dunne were creative partners in the true sense of the term. Didion's 'The Year of Magical Thinking' is widely considered a classic that exemplifies her love for her husband.
5) Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn
Although Tracy and Hepburn starred in just nine movies together during their careers, they were known as one of the most desired on-screen couples. Their effortless chemistry in front of the camera was informed by their real-life 26-year-long affair. Almost the entire of Hollywood at that time considered the affair an open secret.
