'Bel Air' series finale just dialled up the heat with a surprise superstar cameo
As all good things must come to an inevitable end, so does Peacock's 'Bel-Air'. As the reimagining of the original superhit sitcom, 'The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air', 'Bel-Air' on Peacock had an admirable run of four seasons. The recently released batch of the final three episodes initially had a tall work order to fulfil, one that included providing closure to the long-running storyline and bringing the characters full circle. The realistic and far more gritty show delivered on its promises satisfactorily, according to a report by Just Jared, with a surprise cameo appearance stealing all the limelight!
The moment in question arrives when Will, Jazz, and Carlton drive together to a spot that will allow them to take in much of the city before Will eventually relocates to Philadelphia to join the Business Management programme at the University of Pennsylvania. Taking a moment aside from his friends, Will contemplates his future when all of a sudden, a stranger walks into the frame, albeit to dole out a few nuggets of advice, as described by Deadline. "Steppin' into the future is kinda scary, huh?" the stranger says to spark off a conversation. He's none other than Will Smith, playing his future self from the OG show.
While Will (the character) responds with, "Nah, I'm cool", the stranger reassures him, "It's okay, I won't tell your boys." The two share a heartfelt moment of warmth, speculating about Will's future as he's on the cusp of leaving home and venturing out into the world. "I don't know, it sounds like you've got it all figured out, OG," says Will (the character) to the stranger. The latter, however, quips back by saying, "Oh no, no, sir. Trust me, you're going to mess some things up and do some dumb s**t. But, you're human. You'll learn, you'll grow."
Speaking with EW on the emotional import of the scene that reunited Will Smith with his OG character, 35 years after its debut, director Morgan Cooper described the experience as 'unforgettable'. He went on to say, "I remember walking on the set that day and I was there pretty early, just sitting in the green room and thanking God to be honest with you. Just thanking God allowing me to be a vessel and bringing this series to life, bringing this moment to life. It was really just prepping and making sure that the scene and the moment is saying everything that we want it to say."
The finale of 'Bel-Air' saw several narrative threads being woven towards a conclusion. Lisa and Will ended their relationship to focus on their respective college careers. Hilary found her calling in opening a neighborhood cafe that dished out her Costa Rican recipes. Amira and Carlton grew closer to each other, notwithstanding their decision not to tie the knot anytime soon. Geoffrey started over with his family in Jamaica, and Ashley took up the role of being a guardian to Nicky. All episodes of 'Bel-Air' are available for streaming exclusively on Peacock.
