Season 3 of 'Young Sheldon' came to an abrupt end earlier this year in April, thanks to the Covid-19 pandemic. The hit sitcom which has always had 22 episodes, had only 21 episodes in Season 3. The showrunners — Chuck Lorre and Steve Molaro — did a fantastic job of giving a great ending to the season. But the ending left fans with a lot more questions about the protagonist, Sheldon Cooper's (Iain Armitage), future.

The season finale featured Sheldon stumbling upon a secret his mother, Mary Cooper (Zoe Perry), had been hiding from him and the family. When Sheldon began receiving several letters from various universities trying to get him to enroll in their institution, Mary tactfully hid them all. When Sheldon discovered these letters, he was shocked and confronted his mother.

Mary justified her behavior by pointing out how Sheldon was still a child and wasn't ready to go to college. A very annoyed Sheldon turned to his father, George Cooper (Lance Barber), for support. George helped Sheldon come up with a plan to convince Mary to let him attend college, which ended up causing some friction between Mary and George. Sheldon gives a presentation to Mary explaining why he should be allowed to go to a college and even decided to throw in a bit of compromise by agreeing to attend a college closer home. Mary eventually agreed and gave her blessings to Sheldon.

The upcoming season 4 of 'Young Sheldon' will mostly showcase Sheldon's life in college. Over the years, fans have begun to love the eccentric Cooper family, so the showrunners might also continue focusing on the rest of the Coopers alongside Sheldon. We are also curious to see more of Meemaw's (Annie Potts) interesting dating life, and Georgie's (Montana Jordan) new business ventures, in the upcoming season.

'Young Sheldon' has traditionally premiered in September of every year, but thanks to the ongoing pandemic, Season 4 will not be premiering in September 2020. According to reports, Season 4 is expected to premiere either in the fall of 2020, or early 2021. Keep watching this space for further updates on the release date of 'Young Sheldon season 4.
