Will Ferrell’s new golf comedy ‘The Hawk’ sets release window as Netflix drops cheeky teaser
The much-anticipated and untitled Will Ferrell golf comedy series finally has a name! Now referred to as 'The Hawk,' the upcoming show has been given a summer release window by Netflix. A precise release date, however, is yet to be announced. The streaming platform recently dropped an exclusive teaser that portrays Ferrell as Lonnie 'The Hawk' Hawkins, a fictional golf stalwart.
The recently released teaser for 'The Hawk' begins with Ferrell facing the camera in character. He dons a hot-pink shirt and a white visor that reads 'Hawk'. Under the visor, his curly, platinum blond hair instantly draws attention. As Ferrrell continues posing for the camera, a voice-over begins, "This summer, a legend returns. An icon. A champion. An American hero."
Lonnie mouths the words as the voice-over goes along, “His name: Lonnie ‘The Hawk’ Hawkins.” At this point, Lonnie steps in to say, “That’s me. I’m him. That’s who they’re talking about. If you were wondering.” In another alternate teaser, the voice-over narrator mentions that Lonnie is “forever remembered for the biggest choke in gold history,” while he shakes his head, shushes, and comments, "Don’t bring that up.” In another teaser, he is seen tossing a handful of white chalk powder into the air, in a nod to LeBron James, who practices the same before his NBA games.
The official description of the upcoming show reads, "Lonnie Hawkins, 2004’s No. 1 golfer, struggles on the back nine of his career to recapture his magic. His body says retire, but his heart says he’s not done yet. His ex-wife and his son, Lance, golf’s new golden boy, know he’s through. But with one more major to win to complete golf’s Grand Slam, Lonnie refuses to believe he’s anything other than one stroke away from the greatest comeback in golf history."

'The Hawk' was first announced at the Netflix Upfront back in 2024 and was originally supposed to have 10 episodes. Josh Rabinowitz, Andy Campagna, and Ramy Youssef were initially a part of the project before they exited due to creative differences.
According to a TMZ report, Ferrell faced a major obstacle in November 2025 when an injury kept him sidelined for a while. Although he recovered, the production team had to rearrange its shooting schedule to accommodate the circumstances.
Alongside Ferrell, Molly Shannon stars as Lonnie's ex-wife, who has a foul mouth. The remaining cast members are Jimmy Tatro, Fortune Feimster, Molly Shannon, Luke Wilson, Chris Parnell, David Hornsby, and Katelyn Tarver. Ferrell himself executive-produced the show, in association with Jessica Elbaum and Alix Taylor of Gloria Sanchez Productions.
The other executive producers include Ram Bergman, Nena Rodrigue, and Rian Johnson, representing T-Street, and Harper Steele, David Gordon Green, Andrew Guest, and Chris Henchy.
