Spoilers for ‘The Stand’ Episode 7 ‘The Walk’

Episode 7 of the CBS All Access limited series saw two crucial things happen. One, at Mother Abagail’s (Whoopi Goldberg) dying behest, Stu (James Marsden), Larry (Jovan Adepo), Ray (Irene Bedard) and Glen (Greg Kinnear) set off on foot towards Vegas to confront Randall Flagg (Alexander Skarsgård). Two, after the explosion, Harold (Owen Teague) and Nadine (Amber Heard) flee the Boulder Free Zone.

Nadine and Harold escape on bikes, and up ahead on the highway, the inevitable happens. As a corner comes up, Nadine screeches to a halt. But Harold doesn’t hit the brake in time. His bike crashes. He goes flying off the edge. And finally, he is impaled onto a tree. As in the book, Nadine tells him how Flagg would have never let him live and that the kinder way would be to kill himself. She then leaves. After writing a note in his journal, Harold does just that, bringing his saga to an end. Not long after, the four find Harold’s body.

But things are about to turn dark for Nadine as well. After being finally united with her lord, Flagg, the two have passionate sex. Things take a shocking turn (for Nadine) when she sees the demon form of Flagg. We see Nadine’s hair turn white. And soon afterward, we see that Nadine is immediately very pregnant — she’s carrying the Devil’s child.

This is a bit of a departure from the books where Nadine realizes that she does not, after all, want to be one with Flagg. And in the aftermath of that, Flagg very brutally and violently rapes her. As per the book, after the rape, “If she was also catatonic, what did that matter? She was the perfect incubator. She would breed his son, near him, and then she could die with her purpose served. After all, it was what she was there for.”

Meanwhile, the Boulder four run into trouble. While trying to cross a deep crevasse, Stu falls and breaks his leg — we can see a bone sticking through the skin. Stu then convinces them to leave him behind. Glen gives him some pain pills. But soon, the other three meet in the middle of the desert Lloyd Henreid (Nat Wolff) in a stretch limo. He takes them to Vegas.

The episode also sees the Trashcan Man (Ezra Miller, in arguably the show’s best casting decision, despite the show’s terrible adaptation of this Stephen King character) enter a missile silo, to get the “fire” that Flagg had asked for from the Nevada desert.

What will happen next?

Episode 8 is titled ‘The Stand’, the same as the show. The penultimate episode of the limited series, if it remains loyal to the book, will see Glen killed by Lloyd after he refuses to bend his knee to Flagg. In her final moments, Nadine prophetically tells Flagg that four men from Boulder would come and destroy him. Flagg loses his temper and hurls her from the penthouse balcony, killing her. The more important thing to come ahead, however, is the return of the Trashcan Man. He returns with a nuclear warhead and subsequently detonates the bomb, destroying Flagg's followers and the two remaining prisoners. But will we see that happen in the next episode or the final one, is yet to be seen.
