‘Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender’ will skip theater release, but here’s where you can stream it
Ever since the original 'The Last Airbender' successfully ran on Nickelodeon between 2005 and 2008, audiences have been consistently curious about everything that transpired in that universe. It is owing to this reason that Avatar Studios was set up in 2021, and the sequel film, i.e., 'Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender', was announced. Originally scheduled to release in October 2025, the sequel feature ran into a few roadblocks when its release was pushed to January 30, 2026. This spate of bad luck continued with the film deferred to release on October 9, 2026. Now, according to ScreenRant, the sequel's theatrical release has been officially cancelled altogether.
A statement from Jane Wiseman, the Head of Originals for Paramount+, recently revealed that 'Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender' will be officially coming to Paramount+ in the absence of a theatrical release. The announcement didn't specify a date for the sequel's release on the streaming platform, and further added that the upcoming series, Avatar: Seven Heavens, will follow suit. The 'Seven Havens' series transports the audience to a world reeling in the aftermath of devastation. A young character comes to the fore and recognizes herself as the next Airbender, following in Korra's footsteps. As time ticks by, she and her estranged twin must simultaneously save their civilization while dodging both mortal and spirit adversaries.
"The Avatar Universe has captivated audiences for two decades, and Paramount+ is proud to be the exclusive streaming home for its beloved animated incarnation," said Wiseman, "The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender and Avatar: Seven Havens represent the next evolution of storytelling from Avatar Studios — bringing together remarkable talent both in front of and behind the camera to deliver the epic adventures and emotional depth fans have come to expect."
The above-mentioned additions will definitely bolster the ranks of 'The Legend of Korra', which is already available on Paramount+. The plot of the sequel movie, as per The Hollywood Reporter, is removed from the events of the original series by several years. The crux of the plot remains the same, with the 2010 film adaptation of 'The Last Airbender' having already established the cult of the exceptionally powerful 'benders' who can manipulate the four elements of fire, wind, earth, and water at will. Aang, Sokka, Katara, Zuko, and Toph are all grown up in the sequel and are poised to embark on a new misadventure.
Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante DiMartino have created the sequel which is directed by Lauren Montgomery. William Mata and Steve Ahn have served as the co-directors with Maryann Garger and Latifa Ouaou producing. It has also been confirmed that Geraldine Viswanathan, Taika Waititi, Dee Bradley Baker, Freida Pinto, Ke Huy Quan, and Peta Sergeant have been added to the cast that already includes Eric Nam, Dave Bautista, Dionne Quan, Román Zaragoza, Steven Yeun, and Jessica Matten.
