Disappointing news for ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ fans as Netflix drops major release update
Netflix had a rather disappointing season 2 update for 'Avatar: The Last Airbender' fans. The streamer dropped a new poster for the new season with a release date. With a crisp three-word caption, Netflix stirred excitement among fans.
"Toph has arrived," the caption said. The release year was listed as 2026 with an official date yet to be confirmed. It's worth noting that the show was renewed for seasons 2 and 3 which conclude the epic story. Executive Producers Christine Boylan and Jabbar Raisani shared excitement about the new instalments.
"We’re looking forward to working with all of our actors again and digging into the deeper, more complicated relationships that develop as their journey continues in Season 2," they said. "We are going to show the real-world versions of iconic scenes from the original, and explore some of the stories that the animation didn’t. Mainly, we’re looking forward to seeing our gang all together again."
They also teased what was in store for the new instalment. "There’s no war in Ba Sing Se," they explained. "For the Gaang, fans can expect more brilliant plans from Sokka, even more masterful bending from Katara, Appa, and Momo to be as fluffy as ever, and Aang to learn a new bending form (or two)."
"We’re going to challenge our characters with more complex and nuanced obstacles as they navigate a more tactile world,” said Boylan and Raisani. "Just as the animated series matured and progressed, the live-action will also take these characters and worlds and grow them."
The upcoming season also sees a slew of new faces in the mix. Terry Chen as Jeong Jeong, Dolly de Leon as Lo, Li, Lily Gao as Ursa, Dichen Lachman as Yangchen. Reprising their roles are Miya Cech as Toph, Chin Han as Long Feng, Hoa Xuande as Professor Zei, Justin Chien as King Kuei, Amanda Zhou as Joo Dee, Crystal Yu as Lady Beifong, Kelemete Misipeka as The Boulder, Lourdes Faberes as General Sung, and Rekha Sharma as Amita.
