Best-selling author Emily Henry fans will be a happy bunch. The trailer of the author's book-to-movie adaptation, 'People We Meet on Vacation,' has arrived. The Netflix feature sees best friends Alex (Tom Blyth) and Poppy (Emily Bader) embark on summer vacations across different cities, all the while trying not to fall for each other. The movie is set to release in early January next year.

The film's official synopsis reads: "Poppy and Alex have been unlikely best friends for a decade, living in different cities but spending every summer vacation together. The careful balance of their friendship is put to the test when they begin to question what has been obvious to everyone else — could they actually be the perfect romantic match?"

According to Variety, fans of the book will remember how Alex and Poppy embark on trips that include their time in New Orleans, a camping trip that goes south, and a canceled trip to Norway. The glimpses are shown in the trailer where the duo are not trying to fall in love with each other in the around-the-world romantic drama. Rounding up the cast are marquee and immensely talented names in Lukas Gage, Sarah Catherine Hook, Jameela Jamil, Molly Shannon, Alan Ruck, Lucien Laviscount, and Alice Lee.

Speaking to the outlet, director Brett Haley teased what was in store. "This story lives or dies on the chemistry between Alex and Poppy — and Emily and Tom’s chemistry is electric," Haley said. "They capture that opposites-attract dynamic in a way that feels effortless and true. I watched (Bader and Blyth's) chemistry read four times in 12 hours, and I loved it more every single time. The very first time, I was laughing out loud, and I got so emotional by the end."

"It’s an epic journey that unfolds over nearly a decade of friendship, vacations, big life changes, and slowly building feelings,” he added. “That kind of love story — rooted in shared history and hard-earned vulnerability — feels rare and timeless. The movie makes you feel like you’ve gone on vacation right alongside Poppy and Alex."

On her part, Henry said, "I’ve been kind of an anxious wreck about who would play these characters,” while adding she was "confident" viewers, like her, were "going to completely fall in love" with the lead characters. The novel 'People We Meet on Vacation' has sold more than two million copies and spent significant time on the New York Times list of best-sellers.

'People We Meet on Vacation' releases on Netflix January 9, 2026.
