Why did ‘NBC Dateline’ convict Gregory Malarik kill Sherri Malarik?

Gregory was convicted of murdering his wife, Sherri, as revelations during the trial unfolded. Assistant State Attorney Amy Shea presented evidence that Gregory and another woman, Spohn, had engaged in an affair while Sherri, a U.S. Navy petty officer, was stationed in Greece.

This extramarital involvement emerged as the apparent motive for the murder. Legal documents also revealed that Sherri herself had been involved in an affair in the days leading up to her tragic death.

In October last year, Gregory Malarik, aged 60, was facing a retrial for Sherri's murder, which occurred in 2001. The initial trial concluded with a mistrial in 2022. Despite the murder occurring in 2001, Gregory was only arrested in 2020.

Since August of that year, he has been out of jail on a $400,000 bond as he awaits the legal proceedings.
