What happened in 'My 600-Lb Life' Season 12, episode 4?
Featured in 'My 600-Lb Life' Season 12, Episode 4. Abi Ruiz, 37, revealed his history with the world. In 2014, he was wounded in a vehicle collision because another motorist did not stop at a stop sign.
While Abi suffered no serious exterior injuries as a result of the collision, he did get whiplash, which caused his neck to be displaced. Abi had developed a bulge on his spine and was unable to feel his legs.
When the swelling in his spine subsided, he was able to move his legs somewhat. Abi had been on perpetual bed rest for several years due to his injuries before appearing on the show.
His leg muscles had atrophied as a result of inactivity, and Abi wanted to manage his weight increase. He had also acquired terrible bed sores on his back, which had to be treated by Brenda and Abi's sister, Miriam.
Determined to change his life despite his constraints, Abi visited Dr Now, who prescribed a nutrition plan and urged that he begin physical therapy. Despite his best efforts to follow the advised routine, Abi began to feel a little disappointed owing to a lack of clearly defined goals.
His confinement to bed meant he had no notion what weight he was currently at and, hence, no target weight to accomplish. Abi was sent to a medical center five months into his on-screen adventure, as Dr Now had arranged.
His weight was determined to be 728 pounds, and a severe diet, cleanliness, and treatment regimen were implemented. Within a month, Abi had lost 605 pounds, but he missed Brenda, who was unable to stay with him at the facility owing to her work.
His physical treatment also did not appear to be progressing as well as Dr Now had planned. However, everyone remained pleased with the weight decrease trajectory.
Abi weighed 527 pounds in month 7, demonstrating a significant improvement. This made Dr Now confident that he was prepared for the weight loss operation, which resulted in Abi's stomach being reduced by 80%.
Dr David Lin, an orthopedic surgeon, then arrived to check on Abi and discovered that his femur and lower leg bones had fused and would require surgery. However, for that treatment, Abi had to reduce his weight to less than 350 pounds.
Abi weighed around 477 pounds a month after his weight-loss treatment and was sent home with the objective of reducing 60 pounds in two months. In month 11, Abi had reduced to 421 pounds.
By the end of his twelve-month journey, Abi weighed 403 pounds, having shed at least 325 pounds in total.
