When will ‘Mom’ Season 8 return? Here’s what to expect when CBS is back with ‘a whole new territory’
Anna Faris and Allison Janney starrer ‘Mom’, over the years, has grown to become one of television most loved sitcoms as it has managed to garner an impressive viewership with the story of a single mother Christy, who is battling alcoholism and drug abuse, by navigating her life and misadventures with her mother Bonnie, who is also a recovering addict. With seven successful seasons under its belt, the hit sitcom will be returning soon with yet another installment as Season 8 is underway.
Where we left off
Season 7 of ‘Mom’ was the last one to feature Faris as Christy as the actress will not be returning for the next season. The previous installment concluded by showing Christy going back to school to pursue her dreams of becoming a lawyer. Meanwhile, Bonnie works towards having a healthy relationship with her husband Adam, a role essayed by William Fichtner. The season concluded on April 16 and was renewed for another season soon after. The production of the previous season was stopped after the release of episode 20, due to the coronavirus-induced pandemic, making it the season finale for 2019-20.
What we’d like to see
According to Deadline, Season 8 of ‘Mom’ will be addressing the absence of Faris’ character. Meanwhile, the other lead cast Janney shared a video from the sets of Season 8 on Twitter and stated, “Hi everyone, we are all back at Mom on our first day with the new COVID protocol. Everyone’s here and it’s a whole new territory but we’re excited for season 8 to begin.” The rest of the cast for the next season will include, Mimi Kennedy, Jaime Pressly, Beth Hall, William Fichter, Kristen Johnston along with Janney. However, it remains to be seen how the show is planning on carrying the story further without Faris; character as it centered the single mother’s life.

When is it returning
‘Mom’ Season 8 was previously slated for a September 2020 release, but the production had to be pushed for later due to the global pandemic. A few reports are suggesting that series might return in November. However, CBS is yet to confirm the official release date for the new season. Wath the space for an update on the same.
