Netflix finally releases trailer for 'Little House on the Prairie' and it's arriving sooner than you think
Written by Laura Ingalls Wilder, 'Little House on the Prairie' remains one of the most significant specimens of American literature. The beloved narrative had previously been adapted for television by the popular Michael Landon series, which aired between 1974 and 1983 on NBC. However, as a testament to the undying popularity of the literary source material, Netflix has recently announced its own adaptation of 'Little House on the Prairie.' Furthermore, Season 2 has also been greenlit, according to a Tudum report.
Apart from releasing the first teaser trailer for the upcoming series and the key art, Netflix has also come out with an official synopsis that reads, "Part hopeful family drama, part epic survival tale, and part origin story of the American West, this fresh adaptation of Laura Ingalls Wilder’s iconic semi-autobiographical Little House books offers a kaleidoscopic view of the struggles and triumphs of those who shaped the frontier." Despite many details from the upcoming show being kept tightly under wraps by Netflix, it is known that the executive producer, Rebecca Sonnenshine of 'The Boys' fame, is associated with the project.
In a recently released statement, Sonnenshine described the origins of the show and its place in the larger scheme of things: "The first season is inspired by Little House on the Prairie, which is actually the third book in the series," she said. "The characters talk about their life before they came to the prairie — we might meet a few characters from their past." The debut season will chronicle the Ingalls family's journey from a farm in Wisconsin to a log house in Montgomery County, Kansas, in the year 1869. The original novel was written during the Great Depression and was published in the 1930s. Much of the novel was based on the author's own experiences growing up in the 1800s, and the central conflict of the upcoming series will be Laura's father's hope for a new life in Native American territory, despite the Government's reassurance that white settlers were invited.
Speaking about the tonality and subject of the show, Sonnenshine revealed, "This show is a love story about a family. They’re a family you want to be with, you want to know, you want to spend time with. That’s really at the core of what Little House on the Prairie is about: a family that is there for each other, that tells stories to each other, tells stories about themselves." The cast includes Alice Halsey as Laura, Luke Bracey as Laura's father, Charles Ingalls, Crosby Fitzgerald as Laura's mother, Caroline Ingalls, and Skywalker Hughes as Laura's older sister, Mary. 'Little House on the Prairie' will premiere exclusively on Netflix on July 9.
