'Hit Man' trailer is here and we can't stop gushing over Glen Powell's multiple characters in Netflix flick
NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA: Glen Powell steps away from his boy-next-door persona seen in 'Anyone But You' and embraces a tougher character in 'Hit Man'.
The trailer, which dropped on Thursday, April 18, shows Powell going undercover and tackling multiple roles, depicting his versatility as an actor. Not only does Powell impress with his acting skills in the trailer, but he also co-wrote the movie alongside 'Before Trilogy' director Richard Linklater.
Premiering at the 80th Venice International Film Festival and later at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival, 'Hit Man' caught Netflix's attention, securing a whopping $20 million deal at TIFF, the festival's largest acquisition.
Early viewers have praised the film, earning it an impressive 8.3/10 rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a Metacritic score of 82 out of 100 from 20 critics.
What is 'Hit Man' about?
'Hit Man' is a dark comedy about Gary Johnson (Glen Powell) who masquerades as a professional killer but helps the police catch people who hire him to take out their abusive boss or cheating spouses.
Gary gets into trouble though when he breaks protocol to help Maddy Masters (Adria Arjona), his love interest in the film. Gary finds himself flirting with crime as he tries to help the desperate woman he has fallen in love with, in escaping her abusive husband.
The official synopsis reads, "Inspired by the unbelievable true story, a strait-laced professor (Glen Powell) uncovers his hidden talent as a fake hit man in undercover police stings. He meets his match in a client (Adria Arjona) who steals his heart and ignites a powder keg of deception, delight, and mixed-up identities."
