‘Beetlejuice’ is undoubtedly one of the most adored comedy movies of all time and Tim Burton has given us a classic that is loved by one and all. The movie, which was released in 1988, is primarily focused on a recently deceased couple who, as ghosts haunting their former home, contact ‘Beetlegeuse’ (pronounced and occasionally spelled Beetlejuice in the film), a devious ‘bio exorcist’ from the Netherworld, to scare away the house’s new inhabitants.

Directed by Tim Burton, the fantasy horror comedy film went on to become a massive success at the box office and received positive reviews as well. The movie was made on a production budget of $15 million and grossed over $74 million at the global box office. Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder were seen playing the leading roles. Since 1991, Burton has been trying to make a sequel to the title mentioned above and bring out something fresh from a story that can be explored in many different ways.

However, ‘Beetlejuice 2’ never got made. It faced a lot of challenges and every time, we felt that a new ‘Beetlejuice’ would finally hit the screens, the negotiations would fail. But now the sequel is officially in the works, filmmaker Burton has shared a ‘cryptic’ update on the long-awaited ‘Beetlejuice 2’. So, when will the sequel released? Let’s take a look.

When will ‘Beetlejuice 2’ be released?

‘Beetlejuice’ turned out to be one of the most acclaimed movies of Burton’s career and over the years, he has been doing all the hard work to make a sequel. As of now, no release date has been announced for the sequel, but several reports suggest that the principal photography for the sequel will start later in late 2022 or early 2023. If the movie starts filming in the final two months of 2022, we can expect it to be released somewhere in late 2023 or early 2024.

How can you watch ‘Beetlejuice 2’?

As mentioned above, there’s no release date and as of now, we don’t know if the movie will be released in theatres or on any streaming services. The first movie was a huge success and raked in a good amount of money upon its release. Maybe, Warner Bros and Plan B Entertainment would think of giving it a theatrical release before making it available on any streaming services.

What is the plot of ‘Beetlejuice 2’?

‘Beetlejuice 2’ has been in development since 1991. At the time, Burton wanted to write a different script and match it with the surfing background. The sequel, titled ‘Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian’, never saw the light and didn’t get made. As far as the new movie is concerned, there is no update on what it will be based on and even Burton has been really tight-lipped about everything related to the project. Maybe, in the coming weeks, we get to know an official synopsis for the movie.

Who’s acting in ‘Beetlejuice 2’?

The first movie saw Michael Keaton playing the titular character, while Winona Ryder was also seen playing a pivotal character. With the second movie already announced, it’s being reported that Keaton and Ryder might return to play the lead characters once again.

What is the latest buzz around ‘Beetlejuice 2’?

The most important question everyone is asking is if Tim Burton will be returning for the sequel or not. Well, at first, he did say that he won’t be getting involved with the highly anticipated sequel. But recently, the filmmaker backtracked on his statement and said that “nothing is out of the question”.

While talking to Deadline, the 64-year-old filmmaker noted that the sequel is still in the early stages and he’ll only be able to confirm anything once he’s on set. He added, “I only know if I’m making a film when I’m actually on the set shooting.  It springs from a seed, and then it grows, rather than out of these statements. I am working on ideas and things, but it’s all very early days. We’ll see how it goes. How’s that for a none answer?”
