When will 'All America' finale release? Daniel Ezra teases emotional episode as he steps into directing role
Farewells are never easy. With the CW show 'All American' finally getting ready to wrap up its glorious run, former series regular Daniel Ezra recently shared a sneak peek from the upcoming eighth and final season of the sports drama show. In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, Ezra confirmed that he would return to the show to direct the finale episode, marking a heartfelt moment of closure for himself and fans of the show.
Throughout the past seven seasons of 'All American', Ezra was a staple in the character as NFL athlete Spencer James. Nevertheless, the 'A Discovery of Witches' star announced his decision to exit the show during the sixth season back in 2024, and has since then briefly appeared on the season seven episode titled 'Shadowboxin'. He has also directed one episode per year for the past four seasons. The eighth and final season is supposed to arrive sometime this year; however, an official release date has yet to be announced.
While promoting his recent film 'The Running Man' on November 9, 2024, Ezra teased, "I haven't read (the script), but I'm hearing it's beautiful. I'm getting calls from everybody saying, 'I can't stop crying' at… however, they ended it. Apparently, it's very emotional, very beautiful, and so I'm very excited." He then went on to disclose his directorial duties, "I actually get to direct the last-ever episode, which I cannot wait for, I'm very excited to bring it home, and I'm convinced it's going to give the fans that closure that they want."
Ezra took a moment to spell out the tremendous impact 'All American' has had on his own career and the countless lives that the show has touched in the past few years, "You know this show, it came out during the whole COVID of it all, and it meant so much to so many people, I still get stopped in the street (by) people telling me that the show got them through COVID and they grew up with the show, as did we."
The plot and other details of the upcoming final season remain tightly under wraps. Nevertheless, Ezra's exit from the show marked the narrative point at which his character of Spencer James, gained prominence in his game, thereby rising up to the occasion. Ezra remarked in this regard, "For me, the goal was always to take this broken teenager, put him back together, and then turn him into a man. We've done that. We got him to the NFL; he got the girl. He accomplished his dreams. He's gotten to a place where he's able to impart that wisdom to a younger generation to give back to his community. He's done literally everything he set out to do," as per Entertainment Weekly. 'All American' is available exclusively on The CW.
