When is Sherlock Holmes 3 releasing? Robert Downey Jr. shares an epic teaser to excite fans
The film is being scripted by Chris Brancato with Guy Ritchie reportedly taking his place once again as the director of the third Sherlock Holmes movie.
Have you been missing the detective duo from 221B Baker Street? While fans might still have to endure a nail-biting wait until the end of 2020 to see their favorite British sleuth in action, an epic teaser in the meantime has made its way to the Internet, adding to the hype surrounding Sherlock Holmes 3.
Interestingly, the teaser was shared by none other than franchise star Robert Downey Jr., who has been bringing the character of Holmes to life since the first Sherlock Holmes movie in 2009. "Practicing my Sherlock face," the 53-year-old actor wrote, posting a hilarious GIF of himself from one of his past Sherlock Holmes movies, adding some intense expressions for good measure.

Unsurprisingly, as soon as Downey shared the GIF, fans and followers of the Iron Man star bombarded his post with a host of funny memes and curious questions. While most people online were pleased to get an update about the third installment in the detective movie franchise, others couldn't help but wonder when the third movie might be hitting the theaters.
"Are you playing Sherlock again?" an excited fan asked in the comments section, a question that was soon answered in the thread by other fans. "Yes! Sherlock Holmes 3 is happening," shared another user. "Don’t forget to practice your #RDJude face for the press tour too," added a third fan, tweeting out a picture of Downey with his Sherlock Holmes co-star Jude Law, who is expected to reprise the role of Dr. John Watson in the third movie expected to premiere worldwide in December 2020.
"Christmas 2020, Here we come," added someone else, echoing the mix of emotions over the return of Sherlock Holmes in theaters.
Scheduled for a holiday season release, the 2020 movie will see Downey and Law returning as the fan-favorite duo, who first appeared in the beloved Arthur Conan Doyle books. The film is being scripted by Chris Brancato with Guy Ritchie reportedly taking his place once again as the director of the third Sherlock Holmes movie.
Although the news about Ritchie's return is yet to receive an official nod from Warner Bros, the studio would definitely be hoping for another successful run. Afterall, the previous two installments have proven to be fairly lucrative at the box-office, earning $524 million and $545 million respectively in the international market.
