Callum Turner's 'Possession' remake finally sets release date
Paramount has finally set a release date for Parker Finn's remake of the 1981 cult horror film 'Possession.' Callum Turner and Margaret Qualley will star as a couple at the center of the supernatural horror story. The release date puts the remake directly against Universal Pictures' live-action 'How to Train Your Dragon 2,' as both movies are scheduled for June 11, 2027.
Finn, known for directing 'Smile', wrote and directed the new version. The original 'Possession' was written and directed by Andrzej Żuławski and released in 1981. It starred Isabelle Adjani and Sam Neill as a married couple in Cold War-era West Berlin.
Their troubled relationship gradually turned into a disturbing supernatural nightmare. Adjani earned the Best Actress prize at Cannes for her performance. The film later became a major title in arthouse horror and gained a strong cult following.
Turner and Qualley will play the central roles in the remake. Other cast includes Diego Calva, Madeline Brewer, Emory Cohen, Nicholas Alexander Chavez, and Paul Dano. Finn is producing the film alongside Jonathan Fass from Bad Feeling. Roy Lee and Andrew Childs are producing from Vertigo, with Robert Pattinson among the producers. Marc Bienstock serves as an executive producer.
The remake also joins a busy stretch for theatrical horror releases in June 2027. Columbia Pictures will release JT Mollner's 'Skeletons' on June 4, one week before 'Possession.' Brie Larson stars in that film, which will open against Lionsgate's 'John Rambo.'
A week after 'Possession,' Columbia Pictures will release the long-anticipated animated threequel 'Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse' on June 18, 2027.
