'When I was the Most Beautiful' Episode 5 sees Jin (Ha Seok-jin) and Ye-ji's (Lim Soo-hyang) relationship begin on a solid note but soon, or to be accurate, in just a few months, Jin and Ye-ji begin to feel the pressures of having to live amid people that are continually targeting them. Jin has to deal with his ex-girlfriend who is still jealous of him choosing another woman as his wife. So with the help of her acquaintance, who happens to be Jin's enemy in the world of business, begins targeting his projects and his plans. Ye-ji is continually facing a tough time from her aunt who continues to vilify her for being the daughter of a murderer. She is her paternal aunt who is mad at Ye-ji's mother for having killed her brother and Ye-ji's father.

This unfair treatment also continues to take place even after Ye-ji's wedding to Jin. In Episode 5, she is asked to come home for her father's memorial service, and there, her aunt tries to bully her again. Ye-ji finishes the memorial service and then tells her aunt that from next year, she would do the memorial service for her father alone. After hearing that Ye-ji is in Seoul visiting her aunt, Jin arrives to pick her up. He understands how disturbed Ye-ji gets when she is around her aunt so he arrives to ensure that Ye-ji is not treated unfairly. When he arrives, Ye-ji's aunt tells Jin that he has married a murderer's daughter. She hopes to shock him about the truth when she is instead shocked to see that Jin is not surprised.

He tells Ye-ji's aunt that their marriage is not built on lies but honesty and trust. He also tells her that not just him, but his family also welcomed and accepted Ye-ji because they believed that she grew up to be a beautiful and precious human being. Hearing this annoys Ye-ji's aunt further because she doesn't want Ye-ji to be happy. Despite Ye-ji being her niece, all that her aunt can see is her mother in her.

Ye-ji also learns about Carie's relationship with her husband and confronts him about it. She asks him to share his worries and frustrations with her so that she can understand him better. He has never been someone who shares his thoughts with anyone so when Ye-ji asks him to, he first tries to sidestep her request. However, when she asks her if he chose her because of the baggage that she carries and the possibility that she would let his affairs slide, he loses it. That's when he tells her about feeling strange and so Ye-ji asks him to begin racing again.

She tells him that the only thing that he needs to promise her is that he will stay safe and return to her. He is happy to learn that his wife is so understanding of his passion and dreams, which is quite unlike his mother. However, is this really the best for Jin? Soon, Jin's mother arrives to tell Ye-ji that it is her responsibility to stop her husband from putting his life at risk by racing. Jin's mother is also angry that her son left the company to begin racing again. However, Ye-ji tells her that she cannot change her husband's mind, considering that his own mother was unable to.

However, the two would have never guessed how things will change very soon. The race that Jin has agreed to be a part of, which is taking place in the US, is on a terrain that he hasn't been on before and while the episode did not really portray what happened during the race, it is clear that Jin met with misfortune. We saw Ye-ji's shocked reaction to a phone call from the US and that is indicative of this being a turning point for Ye-ji and Jin's relationship.

During all this time, Hwan (Ji Soo) has moved to the US to study architecture. He was accepted into a university right after Jin's wedding to Ye-ji and hasn't returned since. We also see Hwan running down a corridor right after watching the car race. So what happens now?

'When I was Most Beautiful' will air on MBC on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 9.30 pm KST. It will be available on Viu outside South Korea.
