‘Hannah Montana’ fever returns as Miley Cyrus announces nostalgic Disney+ special and we need it ASAP
Miley Cyrus is officially marking 20 years of ‘Hannah Montana,’ and fans who were obsessed with her bedazzled mics and side-swept bangs are over the moon. From 2006 to 2011, Cyrus pulled double duty as regular teen Miley Stewart by day and chart-topping pop sensation Hannah by night. The artist had been leaving breadcrumbs about some sort of anniversary celebration for months, and fans were calling it the ‘Hannah-versary’ before anything was even confirmed. On February 17, Cyrus finally put the speculations to rest as she announced the release of 'Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special.'
A teaser video appeared on her social media platforms and quickly went viral. There was no face reveal or dialogue in the clip. Just a black and gold stiletto stepping out of a vintage Mustang with an 'HM20' license plate. Then came the date. In a combined Instagram post with Disney+ and Alex Cooper of ‘Call Her Daddy’ fame, Cyrus announced that the special will drop on March 24. This day marks exactly 20 years since the series premiered on Disney Channel and brought her into the spotlight that never really faded.
Also, according to a Disney+ press release, the 20th anniversary event will be taped in front of a live studio audience and feature an in-depth interview with Cyrus, hosted by Cooper. This isn’t their first sit-down, by the way. Cyrus previously appeared on ‘Call Her Daddy’ back in 2020. The special will also include never-before-seen archival footage and recreated versions of beloved sets. The Stewart family's living room is getting rebuilt, and so is Hannah’s legendary rotating closet. That closet deserves its own star on the Walk of Fame, frankly. At the moment, Cyrus is the only confirmed cast member.

Still, fans aren’t ruling out cameos or surprise messages. Notably, on February 5, Emily Osment, who played Lilly Truscott, shared a photo of an old script and reflected on the milestone, prompting many to wonder whether it was a hint. In part, she wrote, “On the heels of our ‘Hannah Montana’ 20-year milestone, our beloved ‘Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage’ director Mark Cendrowski brought in his old copy of an ‘HM’ episode this morning.” Other familiar faces from the original series include Billy Ray Cyrus, Mitchel Musso, Jason Earles, and Moisés Arias. Whether any of them pop up remains under wraps. For now. And then there’s the question on everyone’s mind: Will Miley perform as Hannah?
Her songs practically lived in our iPods rent-free. Right from ‘Best of Both Worlds’ and ‘Nobody’s Perfect’, to ‘Gonna Get This,’ and so on. Disney teased in its materials that “there will also be some familiar notes that find their way back into the spotlight,” and fans are excited about the possibility of seeing their favorite pop star in action again on ‘Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special,’ which hits Disney+ on March 24.
