'The Pitt': From Dr. Robby's plans to Jesse's detention ordeal — 5 questions Season 2 finale must answer
With the 15th hour of their Fourth of July shift nearing, the doctors and nurses at the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center have finally reached the last quarter of their taxing ordeal. Season 2 of 'The Pitt' airs its finale on Thursday. The second installment has been quite a bumpy ride, with critical issues such as nurses' workplace safety, the emotional strain on overworked health-care professionals, and ICE's intervention in primary medical care making their way into the main narrative. Here we take a look at the five burning questions that the show must answer before its conclusion.
1) Will Dr. Robby return?
Throughout the season, Noah Wyle's Dr. Robby has made it clear, time and again, that he's considering going off the grid during his six-month sabbatical. Although he keeps telling himself and the others that the hiatus would be good for him, his behavior has been subtly pointing out that he might be headed for a major emotional breakdown. During a previous episode, he mouthed off with Katherine LaNasa's Dana, dropping the idea that he might not want to return after all.
2) What will happen to Baby Jane Doe?
Baby Jane Doe has been languishing in the ER since the early episodes of Season 2. From time to time, Sepideh Moafi's Dr. Al-Hashimi and Dr. Santos, played by Isa Briones, have been checking up on her, monitoring her vitals, and so on. Yet it remains uncertain whether Baby Jane Doe will ultimately find refuge upstairs in the hospital, or if she'll be adopted by any one of the staff at the PTMC.
3) Will Dr. Al-Hashimi take the reins?
The previously aired episode of 'The Pitt' finally revealed the reason behind Dr. Al-Hashimi's frequent episodes of zoning out while dealing with a high-stress patient situation. She has been trying her best to keep it together, and finally took her diagnosis to Dr. Robby by the end of last week's episode. As a result of her contracting virulent meningitis at an early age, she might not be exactly well-equipped to deal with such a chaotic department as the ER.
4) Can Langdon survive the ER sober?
The Fourth of July shift marks Langdon's first day of resuming his duties at the PTMC following a prolonged rehab phase. Langdon was depicted as the super-cool resident with nerves of steel, and we later learned that much of it stemmed from his habit of abusing benzos. The second season sees him in the aftermath of his fall from the pedestal, and Dr. Robby still seems reluctant to have him back in his ER. It remains to be seen whether Langdon will survive the heat while sober.
5) What will happen to Jesse?
Finally, Jesse was detained by the ICE agents while he attempted to speak up for a patient who had been brought in by the agents. Following a brief show of force, the agents took him to an unknown destination. Javadi and the others have done their best to raise awareness of this unfortunate incident. As she is taken to an ICE detention center, the show's finale must reveal his ultimate fate.
