What to expect from 'House of the Dragon' Season 2 Episode 3? Here's what we know
Contains spoilers and speculation
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'House of the Dragon' Season 2 Episode 2 premiered on HBO on Sunday, June 23, 2024.
The episode continued the gripping Targaryen Civil War storyline, exploring the aftermath of Jaehaerys Targaryen's murder from the first episode, with both the Green and Black factions deeply affected.
Aegon Targaryen (Tom Glynn-Carney) reacts predictably, driven by his fiery temperament, determined to seek vengeance for the loss of his child.
Alongside Criston Cole (Fabian Frankel), he plots an assassination attempt on Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D' Arcy). However, the plan fails miserably when the Cargyll brothers, fighting on opposing sides of the war, end up killing each other, and Rhaenyra survives.
In the Black faction, Rhaenyra is distraught with Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith) over his actions, particularly his involvement in the death of a child.
That sets up an intriguing third episode and here is what we think will happen in the 'House of the Dragon' Season 2 Episode 3.
Daemon goes after Harrenhall
In Episode 2, Daemon faced Rhaenyra's wrath for his actions. Rhaenys Targaryen (Eve Best) believes the only way he can redeem himself now is by capturing Harrenhal.
So, next, we anticipate Daemon heading to Harrenhal, aiming to secure the castle that serves as a strategic gateway to King's Landing. According to 'Fire and Blood', Daemon Targaryen successfully captures Harrenhal.
Ser Otto Hightower plans his redemption
In Episode 2, Ser Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans) is heavily involved, attempting to rein in Aegon who appears to be spiraling out of control with his actions against the rat-catchers.
Ser Otto ultimately faces Aegon's wrath as he is dismissed from his position as Hand of the King. However, one can expect Ser Otto to retaliate and plot his next move, considering he instigated the war of succession with his vested interest in placing his grandson on the Iron Throne.
In the book 'Fire and Blood,' Ser Otto Hightower meets with the Triarchy to help them in a naval battle known as the Battle of the Gullet.
Lord Larys Strong to come into his own
So far, Lord Larys Strong (Matthew Needham) has only made subtle contributions to the series, but the third episode is anticipated to be where he finally comes into his own.
As the Lord of Harrenhal, Lord Larys Strong (Matthew Needham) holds a pivotal position. His alliance with the Greens provides them with a significant advantage in the battle to control Harrenhal.
The Criston Cole and Alicent Hightower saga
Criston Cole and Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke) find themselves in a continuous conflict as they navigate the tension between their desires and their duties.
In Episode 2, Alicent and Cole struggle to keep their distance from each other but repeatedly find themselves unable to do so.
This dynamic has proven costly for the Green faction, and the unfolding consequences will be intriguing to watch. Given that this relationship does not exist in 'Fire and Blood,' the adaptation has the potential to surprise even the most devoted fans of 'House of the Dragon.'
Dragons join the war
So far, 'House of the Dragon' has focused on political warfare and psychological games. With Harrenhal on the horizon, we anticipate witnessing the true power of the dragons in action.
The first few episodes have hinted at the dragons, but now it's time for the heavy hitters to join the action as Daemon sets his sights on Harrenhal.
